I have a couple of Oliver 550's I plan to marry when I get the other one here. One gas, and one diesel. The gas engine is locked up and the diesel has a bad transmission (or so I have been told). I will split them and make a runner, then drag the other one in the woods in case I need some parts down the road. The 550 is only a few years newer, but has 46 hp. Same basic design.

FB_IMG_1453423756637.jpg 440 4V. It is in a stalled restoration right now. I need to cough up a bunch of cash to finish it up. When it is done, it will be B5 blue with blue interior, bucket seats, console, auto on floor, A/C, PS, HEMI suspension, just like it was when it was new.

All gas tractors. The Super A claims 13hp drawbar, 16 PTO. The JD 40 has about 22hp at the draw bar, about the same at the PTO, the Oliver has about 30hp at the drawbar, and a little more on the PTO.

My Ford is a 3 cylinder gas also. When it comes winter time I sure do like the gas over the diesel. The gas starts very easy.

I have been looking forward to having a diesel. I looked it up and it seems the diesel in that model actually has less hp than the gas! Same size engine too... I imagine it will make up for it in torque though. All I use them for is gardening to be honest. Tractors are like saws... You can't have just one... I also have a 71 Dodge Challenger I have had since I was 15. It will be restored next... 318 car, will be getting a 383 4V.

I used to bracket race a 70 Challenger with a 440. Average was 12:30's for the quarter mile. It was a lot fun at the time. These days I have a 46 ford with a small block chevy and a 54 buick with a small block chevy. Nothing with big horse power, I cannot keep my foot out the gas peddle and would just get in trouble. So just cruisers these days.

This one is available... They are all over. You should not have much trouble finding one at a decent price if you really want one. The Oliver will be a little harder to find. There are more of them up north than around here though.

Man seeing that 686 is bringing back some memories. When I was a kid my dad had one. It was his everyday tractor. He loved that thing.
I have my great grandfathers 1952 super M. He bought it new in May of 52. SN 1206. The M has been in my family it's whole life passed down generation to generation. When I was about 5yrs old the muffler rotted off. My dad had it parked outside all winter and had forgotten about the missing muffler. In the spring he tried starting the old girl and guess what, she was full of water. Bent a couple valves and cracked a couple sleeves. So the M go towed out behind the barn and tarped. It sat there for 25yrs. A few years ago I asked about it and my dad said "if you want it it's yours". I dragged it home. I have almost completely torn it apart. I'm slowly restoring it as time and money permit. Someday I hope to be dragging logs out of the bush again with it. This is what it should look like. Someday it will, I promiseView attachment 4562

So cool that you have that. My grandpa paid for this farm with a M. He always said he wished he kept it & had it restored. Not a better workhorse for its day.
