Great thread, lots of interesting stories here....

The first saw I ran was a shindaiwa 577 I think that's what it was.... I cut for about 45 seconds..... and then my older brother made me stop before I sawed any body parts off.....

A couple years later I started running a husky 50....till my cousin straight gassed it.....
Then it was 2100's then a 3120xp and 242xp.

All that was family property equipment used in my teens.....after I got married, I bought my first saw, a brand spanking new 372xp, followed a few years later by a 353.... still have both of those saws.

Right now there's only maybe 35 saws in the shed, so I'm not very affected by cad.....

First saw I ever ran was one of Dad's many 254's, I don't think it was the one I have though. East coast pulpwood production, where saws were consumables, I remember him going through 3 in one summer. First saw I actually put any time on was a 42 Special, it was the spare saw the season he bought the 242xpg I have, 2 summers later I was on the 242 and he bought a new 246xpg, which I also still have. First saw I ever bought new for myself was a 365 Special in 2009. It took about 8 years after that for it to go downhill and it started with 3 more, then 5 more... Lost everything I had 5 years ago in a fire, but you would never know by the 200+ in the shop.

Folks picked up a Mini-Mac 6, the one without a muffler, still have it. This was the first one used. First new was a Pro Mac 510, and a little while later picked up a Hommie XL-12 at a garage sale, it was well used when I got it, but ran good. Fast forward to today and I'm still a rookie with the CAD, but I have learned to pass up those free Mini-mac and 1XX series stuff. Me fingers don't like playin with that small stuff no more. HA.
And now there are a couple smaller Homelites , a few mid sized macs, a pair of partners, and a Echo in the mix. Will likely be a smaller husky coming my way soon as well.

First saw was a Homelite super ez automatic. Step dad bought it and a Mac PM650 about a week before a tornado ran through our back yard. That was 1982. Heated our home all the way through high school with those two saws. Got the bug and never looked back. Now cutting for fun after a spell in the bush. Sold most of my brood. Now in the stable, an MS660 that's on the operating table at Huskihl's hospital for enhancement, MS362C from Randy's place a Mac 10-10a that I built after acquiring an NOS motor from Bob Johnson. When I climb on occasion I have a MM Echo 355T because I ain't paying $1000 dollars for an MS200T. Still in the 12 step program for CAD, but I am getting better now.

My first was a Jonsereds 49SP bought in '81. We got an Echo 290 a couple years later as the wife wanted a saw she could run. That was it until the late '90s and took care of a lot of firewood for us. Last 20-25 years I've picked up "a few" more.

I grew up with wood heat. Dad always ran Husky and I don't remember what they were until he bough a brand new 50 in '88. He never let me run saws, which is why I probably hated getting wood back then.
FF to 2010 and a friend pointed out to me local orchards were selling permits to cut all the apple trees you wanted for $1. So I went to Eastern Truck and Trailer in Boonsboro MD and bought a new 450. Took a few weeks for me to realize I bought he wrong saw so sold it and bought a new 357 from them. Ended up with16 cords of apple before I even had a wood stove! Another Site showed me how to fix dads old 50 after he lent it to a friend who straight gassed it. That site led me to GTG's and ported saws. After that, the bug took hold.

the first saw i ever used was my dads 272. first (and only) saw ive bought new was a husky 340. that did what i needed for quite a while, then found a 51 in a bucket at my buddies house, he said have at it. found AS and got enough info to put a crappy chinee 55 top end on it and ran the heck out of it. and down the rabbit hole i went…

First saw was a 029 Stihl, then 039, kept my home warm with those 2.
Now running Husky, still cutting wood for my home, my parents home and selling wood on the side to 5 other homes.

Used the bejesus out of a 98' Husky 350 that belonged to my father. He ended up giving it to me and buying himself another. Still have it. First saw purchase was an Echo 3400. Still got that one too. Both are usable, but mostly retired.

The first saw I purchased was a Husky 455. Boy the abuse that saw took. I could never get a chain sharp or keep the bar away from rocks and dirt back then (still struggling, lol). I mean that saw would have smoke rolling out of the clutch cover, the bar and chain would be so hot to touch it would burn me, and the paint on the bar would essentially melt off. Then I found the innerwebs forums and I got a bit mo`smart, not much but a bit. I finally figured out how to get a chain to make something that looked like a chip and not dust and then I felt like I knew what I was doing. The rest went down hill for me but over the last few years I`ve been able to manage CAD - 4 kids will do that.

That comes out to a saw about every week and a half. That's an impressive pace! I was hoping someone would post a crazy number so mine looks a little less crazy. I'm at about 150 saws. Have unloaded a few, but have so far built another 4 or 5 in my now abundant spare time.

Dad burned wood to heat the house and the first saw I started running was Dad's crappy Remington MityMite in 1977 when I was 14. When I was 16 I started running Dad's Pioneer Farmsaw. I eventually was gifted that saw and ran it until 2000, when I bought a used Husqvarna 272XP (my first saw, which I still have). Only new saw I have bought is a Maruyama MCV51 about 7 years ago?? Since then I have added about 30 Husqvarna saws.

I'm not sure... I will ask the wife and see if she has noted any changes recently.
I better explain. "Involuntary convulsive saw buying disorder" is what that meant.

You said you have about 30 saws, so it was a wise ( maybe not so wise) Crack.

I wish I had 30 plus saws...👍
