We need to try a 106 or 107° exhaust with this setup. That will add torque at that 11-12k range. A saw that revs to 17k but falls to 10k in a long cut isn't worthless, but nearing it. I'm after one that revs to 15k and only loses 2k in the cut.
Mine was at 104, but I went back in for more compression. I didn't degree it, but I'm guessing I'm at 105-106 now. If your coil isn't at fault, that might be the difference in our saws. I think mine turns more in the cut (using my ear tach), but yours turns higher with no load. I've got another old red lever out there I suppose I could use as a test bed.
I'm thinking of Joe's echo here. Exhaust was low by most standards, but he pulled a 32" chain with half-assed authority
