I'm already 1-1/4 turn out on the L.

Would more be indicative of an air leak?

Don't worry how many turns the screws are. Turn them the what ever makes the saw perform best.

Only way to really know is try without air filter and new plug and see what happens. You'll know where to go after that

Need some advice.

Changed coil wire, saw no longer dies at all.

Saw wants to die off idle. Tune wanders like nuts on the high end. Not acting like an air leak.

Acting pig rich

Brand new wt194 carb out of the box.

Any ideas?

I didn't run without AF. Could be pulling choke closed.

Colin asked me to check out this thread. Did you advance timing at all, havn`t seen posted whether you have or not? Maybe missed it.

Apparently it may be the timing advance, Though I've not had this trouble with others I've modded.

The thought is that the timing is too advanced at idle, so i need an excessively rich mix to reduce the idle down. So its dumping fuel because of this.

I plan to get to it this weekend when It's not too dark or too late to cut.

This thread has been awesome
I was kind of waiting for Al to update the bog issue on the saw. It was running awesome WOT
I still love 1121 Stihls even if the AF sucks

A lot of the Bogging issue did go away with retarding the timing back to normal.

I'm still not happy with the saw. It's got an 024 coil, but a very much needed 026 flywheel. I don't know if timing variations are present between the two.

The timing causing the issue was Basher's correct answer. He's seen it happen in some, but not all, of the 26's he's built. I've got a 26 coil on order.

I got sidetracked with a few builds. This saw is coming apart again and getting the intake opened and squared, the intake floor dropped a bit, and an 044 boot. I may add an 044 carb vs, a hogged out WT194-haven't decided yet.

After my last 260 build with the 044 carb, I don't know if I can ever be totally happy with a 194 again. Not sure yet.

Getting the saw to breath through an 026 filter is tough. An 024 filter will be even worse, plus a rarer bird to hack up.

Sorry I haven't updated the thread. Life's been busy.

I'll post pics and info when I have them.

Back into this saw. Added an 044 boot and carb. Thanks to @Definitive Dave

Below are some pics of the boot mounting. The tab isn't directly at 6 O'clock as one would imagine for proper line up.

Gonna add another deflector to the muffler and hopefully get her fired up today.

I didn't like the pancake intake. I opened it up like I do on my other saws.

Can't say I'm proud of this hack job to fit the 44 carb. I slipped with the burr when attempting to make the idle hole. I should have rotated the studs like @huskihl did.

Just a note, the 024 air box is tighter than a 026, in many dimensions. There's a lot more hacking needed to fit a 44 carb.

The filter sits around 1/8" further backwards making the cover tough to fit.

A V stack will bolt onto the 44 carb, but the handle cover will not fit if you try.

I hope you get it going today. That intake looks great. Makes me want to order a 044 carb.

The air filter cover fitting tight...there's a plastic tab sticking out of the filter that goes inside the knob. I trimmed 1/16" off of that and the cover went on better. There's actually a good bit of room still between the filter and cover, but I drilled some small holes in the front left of the cover.

I couldn't get mine to fit without rotating the carb, or I wouldn't have. My air filter / cover is now cocked about 1/8" to the right. But, like a husky has 5 different colors, when stihl av's wear a bit, the covers don't line up perfectly either. Meh
