I can't fix the off idle bog on mine.

Put the OEM194 back on. It's brand new. I tried the lever below flush and above flush. Same difference.

At the end of the video you'll see it.

You'll also see how it leans out as it warms up as Stihlbro said.

Do you have enough exhaust flow ?
those small holes can be deceiving .
The first 044 I did had a similar problem and it ended up being that I didnt have the muffler ported enough.

That's what I though. It's really buzzing. Nice light weight and nimble power house.

Muffler very open. A 1.5" X 1.5" square under the hear shield with coarse screen.

Tank vent fine.

It's flooding with prolonged idle. If I let it idle for 20 seconds and pull the trigger, it wants to die. Gets going, blows out smoke, then cuts. If it's tuned correctly, it works fine. It only does it if it sits. It's dumping fuel at idle.

It probably needs some passage blocked in the carb or something. Does with both carbs.

I just used it to cut up some 10" diameter branches that fell during the wind storm here the other day. It performed great in the real world. Just need to not let it idle for prolonged periods, which is bad with a standard oiler 026 anyway.

I'm wondering if the added compression is creating heat, and the added heat is causing you to richen the L to get it to idle properly when it's hot. As the saw cools off, it becomes too rich at idle. Maybe there's a difference in proper L tune from 5 minutes run time vs 30 minutes of hard run time (similar to what H tune is doing after you really work it)

Idle tune doesn't change cold to hot.

Behaves the same.

Time makes the difference.

It takes a while for it to idle down to regular. More when hot. I did vac test saw.

Why not turn in the L screw then? Maybe I missed it. I reread the thread again looking for where you noticed this problem

If I turn the L in, it fixes temporarily. Then it won't idle.

It's like it's atomizing some fuel, but some is getting into the case as liquid. When I pull the trigger it wants to stall, but only if I let it sit for a bit. I just used it to cut up branches. It idled for like 5-10 seconds between cuts and was fine.

It's still a good running saw. That bog is just really annoying.

I wonder if it's the porting?

This is the only one that has a pancake intake. Did that way for velocity. My others had bigger taller intake ports.

Almost sounds like a chunk of something in the L needle circuit. Maybe the gaskets or diaphragms are faulty. Idk. Throwing out ideas

Maybe put a stock muffler cover on it. Maybe not enough back pressure at idle?

Al to rule out the intake area theory you could grind the piston skirt to open it up and see what happens. If it fixes it grind the jug, if not its just a piston.

I'm not used to it.

Pats 036 has an intake of 84* and wants to jump out of your hands when you pull the trigger.
