Ultrasonic cleaners? What can I clean

I'm using a redneck set up now with a flea market crock pot.

That’s what I used to use for bicycle parts, along with a water based parts cleaner product (don’t remember the name).

Found that ‘Super Clean’ was so much faster. The hot soak might still be better for some things, or to pre-clean before a USC bath?

Around here the Totally Awesome can be had at Dollar Tree in 24 oz spray bottles and 32 oz refill bottle for a buck each.

Looked at the MSDS for LAsTotally awesome.
It lists "Tetra Sodium EDTA (CAS# 64-02-8)" amongst the ingredients.

It's also listed in the Stihl decarbonizer, but the Stihl product has a much higher percentage of it.
Anyone thinking of trying, what I'm thinking of trying for the next carbon soak?

After @dustinwilt68 's experience, I suggest trying anything new on scrap parts from parts saws, before exposing good parts.

Sounds like good advice.
The USC I had on watch is sold out now. I gotta regroup. Need to sell a saw or 2 also.

The Dollar Tree stores in this area have it. I usually stock up when I go there. Its a great all purpose cleaner. If it works in the USC that's a bonus too.

Well I made the switch, ended up with 38 gallons, should be good for this year now.

I'm curious how this would make a cylinder look in the USC?
Would you have a pic or example?

I do. This is a 032 cylinder. Left this one in 24 hours, ran 3-4 cycles.

I understand removing dirt, and grease, and grit, etc., especially from old parts. What is the purpose of cleaning new cylinders that long?

It was a very old cylinder that was dirty, just came out looking like new.

Mercy Sakes. That cylinder is almost scary (ghostly) looking it's so white.
How does the combustion chamber look? Any roughening?
How about the threads in the spark plug hole?
Have you checked all around the edges of the plating, edges of ports, top of the cylinder bore?
Any sign of color changes around~under the plating edges or any signs of pin holes or rough spots or etching?

I looked it over good after I rinsed it in water, all seems good, threads were perfect too. No issues w that plating, it removed most of the carbon in the chamber too

back to the new cylinders: any reason to USC clean them?

Philbert, I don't know if the ultrasonic cleaner would loosen any dingleberries or other trash from the plating process.
But at this point nearly everything I buy, parts-wise, gets a bit of a tear down and look over, before it is installed.
Poke a cotton swab through the passages where they fit, look for burrs and cuttings.
Pinched and twisted carburetor diaphragms/gaskets are a not unheard of thing to find.

Seems like a routine "pre-clean" of about everything is a good idea some days.
