Unless you cut in below 20s ,no need to thin the oil ,the heat of the muffler being close to the oil tank thins it fine .Mix will work for thinner also ,some loggers i talk to run a tank of mix every so often in the bar oil tank to clean stuff out .
I have cut in 30 below zero. Under twenty is pretty common in my neck of the woods.

We have weeks at a time that don't get above 10 degrees. The polar vortex year it didn't get above zero for over a month.
I prefer to cut in below zero temps. Saws run great, wood splits very easy and you don't break a sweat.

I do not like running a chain where the bottom is all ground off from wear ,on a longer bar it makes it pull one way or the other making crooked cuts .

I dont see a quest for reducing friction a waste of time
A tac additive might be a better way to approach if that's your goal. And increasing the pump volume won't hurt as well.
One thing to consider about my comments is I don't run bars longer than 24" and often I only run a 16" bar. I also always have the Oilers set wide open.

I also run my oilers wide open no matter the bar except my 395. I've ran a 42" on it and haven't turn the oiler up all the way on it
