For the past few years I've been buying TruFuel 40:1 mix for my two chainsaws and blower. I had just opened my last can from my last two-case purchase and I was searching for the best price for TruFuel (regular price of $5.96) and found that Home Depot offers a price of $4.47/can if one buys 12 or more cans (a 25% discount) at a time at the store level.
I visited my local Home Depot customer service desk with price printouts and asked about buying two cases of six cans and have it shipped in the store for pickup, as they only had six loose cans in stock. The customer service guy told me the store and the Home Depot website are two different businesses and the best he could do is to sell me the six cans in stock for the price of $4.47 ea. I like to buy TruFuel in case lots instead of loose cans as they are a hassle and makes about as much sense as buying loose eggs at the grocery instead of in cartons.
I went home empty handed but as I thought more about it, I went on the Lowe's website and found they had 108 cans in stock at a nearby store. I found too that Lowe's will discount 10% from a competitors everyday price so I bought a Home Depot printout of the 12 or more store price of $4.47 per can. Of the 108-can inventory at the Lowes store, I brought home the only two full cases at a price of $4.02/can before tax. If they had had more full cases, I would have bought at least another case.
