Mostly depends on wood you cut. Midwest hardwoods. Run 046s with 20 and 24. 660 and 661 keep 24" and 36" only when needed. 362c and 028s for smaller needs. Use the 20 and 24 simplicity for just the 2 sizes of chain loops

I can tell you now I never have the Saw or bar I want to use with me anyhow.... damn sure coulda used a 32 today. Only had the 20 with me. I'm not great at lining up falling cuts on larger trees. All went well as far as what bar to put on something it's a tough one

Exactly why I like having a variety. lol I bring my 170 for small stuff, my 290 for bucking medium sized stuff, and I do the rest of the work with either my 32 inch 460 or 36 inch 460. Want to do the 441 with a 32 inch light as that will be easier on the back and more maneuverable as I like using them for limbing a felled tree as well. Nice to be able to walk on top of a tree and cut limbs without bending over to much, but sure gives the arms a workout after awhile! I can always buy another bar and chain, probably end up doing a 24 if I do another.

stihl saws

You can always justify another saw.

I like a 20" or 25" on my favorite 441. It just depends on what your doing with it. It's such a smooth saw to run.

441 is one of my favorite saws to port but there a 20" saw to me,if I need a 28" or a 32" I'll grab a 90cc.

I just hack firewood for my own personal use.

Two winters ago I took my 441 & 661 both ported out to cut some firewood, both with 28" bars, few cuts with the 441, few cuts with the 661, few more cuts with the 441, the 441 went back in the truck and that's where it stayed for the rest of the day....

I now agree after owning saws with your port work and weigh the same as a 441 if not lighter.

My ported 441 loved an 8 pin for a 20" bar.

it could pull a 28" bar very well with a 7 pin, with an ES light and M-Tronic it was and hopefully will still be a very good; go to saw.

Jason this 7900 needs a tach lol, tuning is challenging.

The 064 is perky at 14.2

Tuning a 7900 is not easy
I tune the low like any other saw then back the high out super fat then wfo and turn it in until it stops gaining then go just a little more.

Also back to the 441, does the maxflow element fit inside the air box TJ?

Not sure on the max flow yet, I don't think it fits Inside, I think you have to delete the cover system on the saw and just run the entire system like you would on a 460. They say it;s supposed to fit the 441.

We have pretty soft wood here. 20" bars on 026's, 25" on 036's and 28-32" bars on 044's seem to be the norm that I've seen.

Parts came in! Woohoo! Should be rebuilding this weekend....But silly me forgot to order some parts for the handle. Duh! SO, gotta get those on the way. lol But the rest is here and I should be running it saturday. Who needs a handle anyway......
Piston is making me think Lean seizure instead of straight gassed. Come to realize I could have easily saved the jug using the MMWS method.....oh well, good used oem is on the way(thanks jmssaws!). And now I can fix this one up and have a spare.

Still waiting on the cylinder....hopefully it shows up today. lol Also had to order some more parts from stihl...I didn't realize the handle didn't come with the elbow connector and stiffeners. So those are on order along with screws as I didn't see those in the pile either. Rest of the small stuff we should have. SO, hopefully the cylinder with be here sometime this afternoon and I can get to rebuilding this saw tomorrow! If not, oh well....I will get the bottom end together. lol Anyhow, hope ya'alls day is going well. Weather is supposed to be good so I may try and get some truck time in as well. Later gents.
