Husky 394, first attempt at startup after a complete overhaul including carb rebuild, fuel line, filter.....the works..

Pulled 5 or 6 times and she popped, as one might expect. Pushed the choke control in the saw started, briefly.. And refused to fire again. Pulled and pulled, about a dozen more times.. Something's wrong. Raw fuel seeping out of the decomp, seeping out from between the muffler and cylinder... WTF??!! Pulled the plug and dumped what I estimated to be a few tablespoons of liquid fuel out of the engine... WTF????

Pulled the carb back off to check for a stuck metering lever/needle. It was only then that I noticed that the metering diaphragm button is actually supposed to hook the lever! I am not as experienced with saws as many people here, and every diaphragm type carb I have ever worked on the metering diaphragm did not hook the metering lever..

After realizing my oversight, I installed the diaphragm correctly hooking it to the metering lever and whatya know...saw started and ran!

I won't forget to check for what type of diaphragm/metering lever setup I am working with when I open up a carb again any time soon!.

I did the exact same thing, on my 394.....

Another reason I suggested this Thread was to bring forward examples of when working on saws not being able to even SEE or KNOW when there "IS" a problem can bring on "WTF" times. Hopefully this Thread might give the heads up to folks.
Husq 346 OE ....bought as a runner ....Bit tired but not beat up. Went through it as I wanted one of these ...Sooooo bad for myself. Did the intake upgrade , carb kit as i was in there , new ring (caber) , cylinder and piston were spot on. So there I am like a kid with a new toy wandering off to the woods to give it a work out .
First thing I noticed was the idle was lower than the day before when i had Tac tuned the saw and put it away ...2nd was it would be fine for a bit then die off while sitting on the ground. Back to the workshop...Tested .."Everything" couldn't find a air leak or anything wrong carb /metering hight or fuel line.
This Madness went on and off for a week and by this time I was spitting Acid !!
Happened to be looking for a carb for another job and stumbled across a reference to.."Accelerator Pump Carbs" Yup ..sure enough this 1999 346 xp oe had one (Walbro HDA 182a) and i didn't know they could or did . Look for a brass plug covering the hole you can see in the pic. Swapped out and.. "Hey Blooming Presto " !! perfect . Well "WTF" :DPhoto0725.jpg

Maybe it will start better with the feckin kill switch on! Dur DE dur...Glad Ride-Red350R was busy cutting and didn't witness that one...lol! Of course I did just out myself.

I rebuilt my 066 red light and when I got it all together it refused to start.
I pulled the carb off and checked everything twice
Flooded it over and over trying to get it to kick up.

After about an hour with sweat dripping, near blistered fingers from the non elasto start handle on the old 066 I put it up on the bench and walked away.

The next afternoon after work I started down the stairs and the wife says.... "going to fight with that saw again?"

I sat and stared at it for a bit and thought..... spark!
I checked the coil gap and when I had tensioned up the screws the bottom half of the coil had pulled away from the flywheel.

Re-set the gap and it kicked up first pull.

I was elated and disgusted all at once.

New wtf today.the 288 i rebuilt with the Joe "Electic" top end is worse than when i rebuilt it.originally it was smoking like a freight train on 50:1 and a little worse on 32:1.upon tear downnoticed no sealer on the cylinder base, intake gasket was killed.etc.fired up on the rebuild and let it idle a few minutes and ran great.figured a few heat cycles before i stuck it in wood.today i fired it up to cut a stump off.up on firing it was wot the die down then wto at idle.this is pretty crazy.thinking a full rebuild with crank seals and case gasket are in the works.

^^^^You can try, but it won't work very well if you can get it started at all^^^^

I don't think a spark ignition can even get glow fuel to burn.. That stuff is closer to diesel fuel than gasoline.
