Pro94lt you might want to weigh the bars and chains to make it crystal clear.

Yes the 421 is wide as wide as the 5100-5105 series but shorter

I haven't run the 421, only the 241. Holding the 421, it felt pretty nice, but it looked like a bigger saw than than the 241 does width-wise. I think that optical illusion might throw some people off, looks being deceiving and all. A family that deals in Dolmar and Grasshopper, near me, does firewood on the side (and between their 30' GN trailer and small 20K lb crane are well equipped for Hedge). The father, who's in his 70's runs a 421 almost exclusively, going up to a 5100 or 5105 when needed. The son, in his 40's runs the 5100/5 and a 6100 or 7900 when needed and they do quite well for themselves. They'll go out on various farmer's land and buck the trees into sections manageable with their crane, then load them onto their trailer. They finish bucking, splitting and piling the wood at the saw shop. The old man will spend entire days running tht 421 bucking up all sizes of Hedge, Oak, Ash and otherwise simply because it's lighter, he likes the a/v and it's pretty good on fuel. I'm pretty happy with the lineup of saws I have, but for him and his circumstances, I can definitely see the logic there. They probably do 80-150 cord/yr.
Why on earth would you cut that much wood with a 40cc saw. That's nuts. Not saying you can't do it, but time is money.

I would think it would make his operation take a lot longer.

Kudos to the ol' boy getting out there and staying busy

@pro94lt how's the balance and antivibe of the 421 vs 241? I'm thinking of picking one up for carving (or Cs-361P).
The 241 is a smaller saw, and the antivibe is so good on both you really can't feel anything... But they both Ballance extremely well... both saws are studs!

Anyone know if the 241 is closed quad port? The 421 is open port design I think.

i absolutely love my new 241. Ran it for 4 hrs straight in 12-14 inch yellow box and ironbark, and the "angry termite" just kept chewing.
Its so good,I want another one to have ported (anyone selling one?)

You're an aussie obviously. How have you found the auto tune carbie has held up with our crap fuel? Very interested in aquiring a 241 to replace my tired little ms180 as my 4wd/lighter duties saw. Thinking the 40cc would be perfect

If you run 91 octane at 40:1 its fine.
98 octane caused it and the 661 to run hot and rough.
I use my 241 every work day,and the other saws stay in the truck unless i hit something big.
Run the PS chain and a 8 tooth rim sprocket (56 drive links needed, not 55)
i have two,and a third on the way. heard a rumor they were being discontinued,so bought another.
I'm near Castlemaine victoria if you want to try one out

My brother has one and loves it, but it is stock. I have a question, anyone try a timing advance along with a muff mod on one?

I suppose I'd want one, but my MMWS 261 C Ver II is almost as light and very strong, I love it. I'm running 18" 3/8 square on it so B+C will exchange with any of my saws.

18” 3/8 is probably a bit much for a 241? I’d expect your 261 to have more torque.

I have run stock vs MM vs MMWS and they all impressed. the MMWS 241's have more torque than the MM or stock. I tried a couple of 261's and they didnt compare as well.

You couldn't run standard 3/8 on a 241 anyway.

I guess I'll state the obvious and say that yes a 50cc saw has more torque than a 40cc saw..lol.

A 241s advantage lies in its picco chain, I dicked around with one of mine one time and ran the tiny 43 gauge chain on it and it was super fast, but my ported one pulls 68 drivers of .325 just tits.

I’d be happy with .325 if I had one, not really looking for fastest setup. I like durability.

I cut 57 1 ton dump loads in a year with a saw no bigger than 50cc...

Does anyone know how the 241 stock would compare with a stock Husqvarna 242 stock?
