I have 4000 with map that I will use occasionally to heat the area around the bearing pocket. Really only use it when things are very stuck. For removals only
Why not for putting it back together?
I prefer not to beat the crankcase together, I’ll just take it slow - crankcase halves in the toaster oven and bearings in the freezer, then use a crankcase tool (MattyO’s) to pull the crank through.
Never seen a locktite thread locker that won’t soften with heat, the old high strength and high/strength high temp both require heat to remove one just more than other. On saws I use high strength orange which is removable with hand tools no heat and blue medium strength.
So far i have yet to have the double nut trick not work but still will be getting the tools.
Electric heat guns work well for heating bearing pockets ect
If I was only doing cases I would get a heat gun. I need a smaller torch anyway...sometimes oxy/act is overkill.
Still would buy a cheap heat gun also, my 2 temp Gemini brand one was like 20-25$ on sale and it’s much easier to control temp and make it heat evenly in my opinion. If case is split a toaster oven bought at a thrift store works well for some things also.
