How does everyone feel about 661’s?
I was checking them out while waiting for the counter to clear at the dealer today.
Do they oil good or are they wimpy like my 400?
Are they as rugged as 066’s, 660’s were known to be?
Spring av so easy on the hands, I’m not nuts about the air filter set up but I have a lot of saws that I don’t run much so I was thinking of selling and upgrading.

Love my 661... oils a 36" 3/8, and a 32" 404 bar just fine fir me, once you knock the limiter pin down so you get the full adjustment of the oiler... takes 2 sec, a small punch and a hammer (or anything to whack the punch... a chunk of fire wood would do just fine...LOL)

They are a lot more user friendly than the 66s, imo. In my experience…have a ‘92 066 redeye that was my main saw for decades then got a 661 Ported by Brad. The 66 is still a tad faster with 24” bar but the 61 won, hands down with 36 and especially a 42”. Much more torque. It is the perfect saw for big wood…a lot faster and lighter than the 880/881 series.

Yup, no need to swap to the AU oiler like with the 066 for longer bars.

As a firewood guy I try to stay out of the big wood but free is free

Not that I’ve noticed. But, I rarely used the 42. 32-36 was the most used as it is good for 5’ diameter and lighter than the 404, 42”

The 661 is a very nice saw and cuts well, I’m sure it will last just fine if taken care of but to ask any new saw to be as durable as an 064/066/660 is a tall order. I’ve seen this family of saws just keep running even after years of beatings

I have seen 046’s/460’s and 660’s take a pile of abuse and still be out making money.
The money 660’s command is just more than I want to pay.
Used around here they sell within a couple hundred of a new 661.

I agree most are over priced and you never know how many Chinese rebuilds are out there for 6-900$ being people seem less honest these days

Exactly. So a new 661 is $1400CAD pho a new 660 is $2224CAD from the source on this site.
It really seems like my best option for a 90cc Stihl is the 661 considering I don’t have time to learn saw repair/ rebuild.

Some AM parts and stickers, meteor piston and caber rings, and an OEM 0.3mm supposedly high compression base gasket. Squish is almost .028“ with it. Was 30 something with the standard 0.8mm one and slightly carboned piston. When I pulled the cylinder the intake side of the piston was scratched and rings were free but had about .002“ more wear at that spot. It ran great but I decided as long as it‘s apart to get the new piston kit. The muffler has no baffle with the large exit and now with the front cover port it runs phenomenal! I just purchased it used but it was not abused. Only the rear handle and carb have heat and near as I can tell, that is how it was purchased new. I see no evidence of wiring for the front handle from the switch. Now with the full wrap if used left handed the exhaust will keep right fingers warm.

325 050 16" will be a 3005 000 7013, but thats a rollomatic E bar, not coming up with a light 04 in a 325 050 16" in our stihl bar and chain book...

Correct, the .65 oiler is the 3201
