There’s a pawn shop near me that has a 120si that I’d really like to own. Problem is he thinks a lot of it too.
Crazy what used Dolmars are going for.. or any of them for that matter, McCulloch 80,81 797 or 125 are gold. Husky 346,372,394 are apparently made of gold as well. Totally chowdered 044’s going for $600..etc WTF!

Last early evening my neighbor had to show me his newly acquired Makita of around 56 cc .It wasn't the bluish green typical Makita color but more so traditional Dolmar color scheme .I forgot the model number but it was a couple years old and looked brand new .He bought it in Indiana for $250 .The hooser state is about 60 miles west .I ran it and quite frankly it was a peppy thing for 56 cc I must say .Chewed right through 18 inch oak and never missed a lick .Nice saw from what I saw .

3/8" .058" 56DL full chisel full complement, round ground/filed.
Right now brand new Husqvarna X-Cut chain and she is eating hardwoods like a starved lion eats a zebra.

That X-cut probably the best cutting outta the box chain going without touching it up beforehand.

On that Makita in just a quick look it looked to me like a removable cylinder design with the bolts coming up from the bottom .Since most people know a lot more than I do is it that or a clam shell .For what's it's worth I've only worked on one Dolmar chainsaw plus two Dolmar designed Makita concrete saws of 73 cc's .Those BTW came out real good .

On the subject of cylinder bolts there are some variations .For example a Partner p-100 has a heavily reinforced design on the cylinder base ,the most robust I've seen on any saw engine .However they used flange headed bolts and require a very thin walled socket to remove because a standard wall will not fit .

I think I recall it’s an 8mm hex and I know I used a 12 point Snap-on 1/4” drive metric deep well on a 6” extension. The socket just slid in the hole. image.jpg

Ran across a Dolmar 103 @ a pawnshop today.
Pretty good condition, had compression.
I googled it & it said it was a detuned 105 & parts were impossible to find.

Steve @166 has NIB NOS stuff for those, but I did not spill that secret!!!

I own 105 & 108, full Mag cases, indestructible little saws, way ahead of their time.
Although they do develop cold start issues, all of mine have them. :(

@Wilhelm when you say these saws develop a cold start issue, I get excited, do they
come from the dark side of the moon, like transformers, it must be cool to have a saw
with a mind of its own, well other than AT or MT, again, Dolamar way ahead of the times.

Within the cylindar the stratos prevent the bolts going top-down so they were installed bottom-up
I like the bottom up approach, probably cheaper and certainly easier to replace a cylinder
if you strip out the threads, than doing the same on a standard case with threads pulled out.

Do You wanna rebuild all three of mine? ;)
I don't like finicky equipment, I have absolutely no patience left for bulldung.
Whatever the issue is, all three behave exactly the same. :(

They ARE great bulletproof saws, a true testament to German old school engineering!
