Are these macs any good? Not picture of exact saw but a neighbor of mine wants to trade me one as partial payment towards a stihl I have for sale. He never showed me the saw but he said he bought it new in the late 70’s or early 80’s. Pretty sure he said it was a pro mac 610. So I googled it and this is what came up to my disappointment, was hoping it was an older more stylish model. Want to ad a mac to my collection but real don’t know if this was much of a saw or how much it’s worth. Ran when he put it away 20 years ago. This style of mac just reminds me of the era when they made some pretty cheap stuff just before going out of business or am I wrong.

They carry about the same value as a cinder block.
I have one taking up room that i'd be more than happy to give away.

Even though they are not attractive saws, for the displacement they aren't bad at all. Oilers are not something to depend on and the anti vibe kind of sucks. But all in all good homeowner firewood saw for it's era.

Kinda what I thought, was looking at parts on ebay and showed a clamshell engine. Looks like a pretty cheaply built saw. So kind of the beginning of the end for mac. If the oiler isn’t any good neither is the rest of the saw in my opinion. Doesn’t cut much wood with no oil to the chain may as well not run either. And looks a lot like the timber bear and some of the eager beaver series. Sounds like it has pro mac on it for salesmanship only.

Might just sell him a saw and charge the money vs get this on partial trade. But I’ll look and see what saw it is for sure. Maybe he gave wrong model and it’s like this9A4F8193-8606-41AC-924B-801848A1871D.png

In the McCulloch thread on Another Site the 610 is currently getting pretty good reviews. Certainly the 600 saws are loud, heavy, relatively slow, but a lot of wood has been harvested with the old cinder blocks.

If it’s a 6-10 I'd take it, they from the same time as the 10-10 and 2-10 just larger saw aren’t they? More like 65-70cc vs 50-55cc for the 10-10

All things considered the 610's aren't a bad saw .A little heavy maybe for 60 cc . It's maybe a 75 dollar saw IMO ."Just David" a flea bay seller some how hyped them up to $400 ,must be a hell of a salesman .

I’d say so being they weren’t that new. Was looking for a tank and ignition for a 3200 series mac because my uncles wheeler saw broke. They wanted 50-80$ for a used ignition on eBay. Ended up giving him an ms 170 to replace it. Parts were as much as it was new.
