Gave the little Mac 160S some exercise today. Good grief, this has to be the loudest thing I own that doesn't go bang! Good little trim saw though, well worth the $35.00 I paid for it in a pawn shop.

I believe my 160 is early 90's, so late production. It has electronic ignition but no anti-vibe to speak of, my hands are still tingling! The "muffler" consists of a little rectangular box with a spark screen and single baffle on the outside. One time, the muffler came loose and the only difference in sound was a bit of ringing!

Can't imagine running an old Mac all day without ear protection and some sort of fancy anti-vibe gloves. Yet, many did!

I never found the minis had that much shake .Some of the 10-10's did though .We used to stick pipe insulation around the wrap handles and rubber tape around the rear handles to tame them down a notch .Funny the 70 cc models didn't rattle as much for some reason .The reed valve models were not bad, perhaps a tad loud .Probably because of the weight which is more than a 10 series nor did the rev as high .Those are torquers not revers .

Ye they are the Italian models 2002 built and after researching tonight it looks like the oil pump was obsoleted in 2003

I don't think Alpina built them. Are Italian though. And I could be wrong. If they're 2002 Alpina definitely no parts stateside for them.

Crank seals are national 471551 and 253747. No head gasket as Lee said. There is a guy on ebay that reproduces the gaskets. Check the intake boot. They can have little cracks or holes that are hard to see. There are a few new ones on ebay too.

Nice find! You will have fun rebuilding it and cutting with it too.

Wow, that's pretty darn nice for free. Does it have compression and spark?
Has ok compression and good spark. I tried getting it to pop but the starter rope is to short and the plug is fouled I think. Pulled the carb and I could see some scoring on the piston and the lower part of the cylinder. Hoping I can hone the cylinder and get away with a piston and rings.

Thanks! I'm rather excited! Just to double check....are these the seals?

FWIW it's not uncommon for any of the 10 series to have slightly scuffed pistons on the carb side of the cylinder .They didn't have the best air filtration systems you know ..Unless it's terrible I don't think it will hurt them .That one looks like an earlier model which IMO is better than the later models .
