Hello, just wanted to say I love this thread! So many nice old macs to drool over, I really can’t say how much this thread has helped me fix up my humble fleet of macs over the last 2 years. They didn’t sell well in my area so the old timers don’t have a lot of knowledge about them

"Old timers"...ouch
Well, you DO have a larger collection of both McCullochs AND birthdays than some of us... ;)
Lets just say you have EXPERIENCE sir.
And thanks for all you share. Wouldnt know half of what I do without what you have freely given.

Looks like some nice units there.
I'm all the way down here in GA, so its hard to find any larger saws.
A PM700 is a BIG saw down here.
A PM850 is on my list, just because it MIGHT have been sold this far south.
Id like to see the records to see if they actually sold any large frame saws this far down in the US.

Going to spend some time on each one this weekend 😁
Sometimes a great notion was actually a good movie, regardless of the shameless Mac footage.
When they put the dads severed arm on the boat with the universal symbol of defiance held up was just plain cool.
Almost as cool as Pauly cutting through the bankers table with his new SP125.

The large frame macs like 250’s were really popular up here but as Homelite and pioneer were more local companies they got more support. The 700 was a really rare find here and has put a fair share of Stihl guys in their place when it barks up
Yep. My PM700 is wearing a 28" Mac bar, and pulls it like its an 18".
Just a torquey beast. It actually had an 18" bar when I found it locally.
Waste of its talents really. You could literally stand on top of it and not bog it with that bar.
It always makes me smile when I put it in some solid wood.
My 7-10A is more like a hotrod.
Yes it'll bog if pushed hard enough, but its a pound and a half lighter, and revs a bit higher. Still got more torque than most of the orange plastic stuff.

A 7-10A is high on my list of wanted saws the few other local Mac guys brag about them often, these macs have really impressed me with how they hold rpm even bucking a fencerow hard maple at 20F they still chug along

Well the 1010 runs.
Took a few primes to get it to pull fuel. Then I flooded it while trying to get the tune roughed in.
My Lord that thing is LOUD!
Probably need to see if I can round up a better deflector cover.

McCulloch Allsport - I learn something new every day. Didn’t know McCulloch made these either.
I would’ve been “ dad I want one”. 🙏🤣
