Speaking of 7-10's, what's the general consensus about the performance differences between the PM700 and the 7-10? I've read tid-bits here and there, but nothing very conclusive or informative. Seems like the same saw, different era?

I haven't run a 7-10 but have heard they are a bit stronger than the 700's. I know my super 6-10A's were much weaker than my 700. I'd really like to try a 7-10 as its hard to believe it would be stronger than my 700, which is pretty damn stout.

I have a 7-10a and I love it. I also now have a couple pretty high compression 700's I haven't put them in wood yet though, one day I'll compare them

Well it's just another opinion which has the most grunt .I have a 6-10 that will walk away from both a 700 and a 7-10 but it's had some "work" .
700 and 7-10 shouldn't be much diff .The 7-10 was points ignition while 700 could be either points or solid state .I've only seen the later which is what both of mine are . The IPL shows both options .

Is he the guy in Kentucky?

You got me to wondering on the gasket being from KY and looks that way. Surprised me as I actually go to that city several times a year for various stuff. Not a far drive at all and have done some saw business in that area, but not aware of this guy.

I have a fresh sa6-10 and a fresh pm700. I think the 6-10 has more torque with 20" bar on both. Haven't touched a 7-10 yet. It's still in Kentucky!:nusenuse:

I have a line on a 7-10 but the price is too steep for me. ($150 at a pawn shop) There's also a "make offer" 6-10 I'd like to snag. Do have a couple PM700's and like em a lot. Just a little short on funds right now for the other ones since I'm tuckin' away for that PM8200 piston..., and the source is really proud of it, too.

On the gasket guy, was just wondering. Free shipping and I'd probably see stuff from him in two days where I am. Last tank gasket I needed I made out of 1/8" Fel-Pro gasket material. Cork and rubber combination. Worked great, but making the template and cutting it to fit was a real pain. Have since been turned on to an easier way..., by just cutting a strip along the gasket material edge to the required length of the whole gasket and fit it into place with a butt joint sealed with IndianHead or something along those lines.
Can also use the 1/16" Fel-Pro (or any decent gasket material for that matter) in two layers with the butt joints in different locations for an even better seal. Can make about a gazillion tank gaskets out of one sheet of Fel-Pro that way. (give or take a couple hundred)

That saw looks like a Model 640. The 840 gear drive has a rear cylinder cover / flap which extends over the muffler assembly.
