If I'm not mistaken the timing is 26 degrees advance .From my perspective just a couple more peps them up but of course too far ahead turns them into mule kickers .Like my 6-10 which will scoot but for 70 cc's can come back as hard on you as 100 cc and try to pull you through the recoil .

Generally speaking McCulloch starter assembleys are pretty robust . I've had one pawl get sloppy and I can't remembe what I did to fix it but that was on a 125 .

Back to post 8,979...I checked two different SP125's here and both have the larger taper. I am wondering if all of the clutches I have on hand were intended for the SP80 model, I have quite a few drums to go with them as well so I am prepared for the next 20 or 30 SP80's that come along in need of an original three shoe clutch and drum.

I do have an ample supply of the 86112 rotors so it would be possible to assemble a clutch with the larger taper if someone had to have a three shoe clutch for a 125. I also have a few of the 89227 4 shoe clutches for the large frame saws with the larger taper as well.

Had to show off my latest find.
Took these a few days ago before I cut a bit of firewood. Put a bucking spike on it temporarily with some bolts I found and a new fuel line. Have since replaced bolts with black oxide hex screws.
Fired first pull and ran great. I honestly would be surprised if this saw cut a full tanks worth of wood, almost no signs of use. Do not find em like this much anymore, at least I dont....lol.

Update on the PM55.I pulled the carb today only to find what a dumb ass I can be.There was no carb spacer & the gasket wasn't in very good shape.I also had to put a new fuel line in as the old line broke when trying to take it off the carb.I put it all back together & it still won't pull fuel.
I've got a question,does it make a difference which gasket is used under the spacer going on the tank side?It's supposed to use part #84081 & since I didn't have that gasket I used part # 86189 (carb gasket).Will that make it not pull fuel?

Ed - Both 86189 and 84081 have the holes for the impulse, only the shape of the opening in the center is a bit different.

Earlier models used 68131 under the spacer to match the opening in the tank bottom, a holdover from the bullfrog carburetor days. Later the shape of the opening changed and they switched to 84081 under the spacer. 86189 was always the gasket between the carburetor and the spacer. The spacer not only raised the carburetor off the bottom of the tank, but provides some insulating properties as well.

Thanks Mark! I'm now in the process of putting an SDC37 on the saw.I have no idea why the SDC65 won't pull fuel,it holds pressure just fine.The SDC49 won't hold pressure at all.I put nail polish on the welch plugs & it slowed down a bit,but still not acceptable.

YeeHa,the PM55 is a runner! Finally after changing out the carb again,what a PITA with that fuel line,it's so easy to kink.I'll try to get pics on here ASAP.

I've been working on a BP-1, this is one of three "parts projects" I picked up some time ago. I was able to find parts and get one gearbox rebuilt and have been working on trying to get another saw running if possible. Well, today it ran for a minute or so then stopped suddenly and appeared to be locked up...I started taking it apart and after a few attempts it started to rotate...part way...then all the way. No sense in taking chances on one of these so I broke it down and found this in the crankcase...



As best I can determine, it is a BB...I did put BB's in the fuel tank to clean it out (rotate in the lathe at low RPM) and seald the tank with Red Kote but how did one get get into the crankcase???



The piston took a little hit as well.



This one was stuck when I received it, required the grease zerk in the spark plug trick to break it free but the piston and cylinder seemed to clean up O.K. This was the worst of the three so I thought it would be a good place to start since I couldn't really hurt it any further...

I have also learned that with the proper technique I can get the primer apart and replace the rubber parts inside.



I still need to get some new gaskets and fuel pump diaphragms and keep looking a few other bits, but I still think I will be able to get this one running.

Here we go,a freshly revived PM55.I went to put the bar & chain on & noticed there was no nut on the adjuster screw.I found one & solved that problem.

I started putting the BP-1 back together after a good cleaning only to discover some damage to the crankcase leading to a crack through and through.

The ones circled in green were fine, the almost undetectable one in red was the culprit.





I cleaned it up, warmed it up to help the JB Weld flow, and will resume assembly next week.
