You stole that saw. Very nice, I would have had to buy it too. Then tried to figure out what to sell to justify it. Hope you can get it running again. These guys are a great help with knowledge.

The starter/charging system have nothing to do with the ignition, the ignition points and condenser are the same as the ones used on LH start McCulloch 10 Series saw. The brush holder and brushes are part of the starting/charging system and are the same on all of the "E" saws.

I checked but really not much info . As far as the brushes you should have one brush connected to ground and the other to the battery .It appears the brush holder might be something similar to the end contact type brushes used on some lawn mower starters .Exactly which or where no find a replacement I have no idea .This doesn't mean you can't find something if you really research it.
A gent I worked with and also a collector rebuilt the battery on an electric start Mac using cells for a battery operated drill which are relatively inexpensive .

After thought : That brush holder design might have been used on Kohler engines .Some of which had a combination starter /generator set up .

Hey Mac gurus.... I have a customer who wants a longer bar on an 895 Mac...I've read that a lot of guys adapt large mount Stihl (3002 mount) to these with spacers...Is this a good way to go?

I'm too far away from the guy to do my own measuring on the saw

Yes you can or slightly file the husky mount, I have a few husky 50” cannons for my Macs

Thanks for the reply! Is the wider tail on the big Stihl bars any better? Obviously the Husky must be wide enough for oil hole alignment if that's what you've used

I have large Stihl bars, and haven’t made the adaptors, but like the husky mount it’s a little narrow at the tail, but not much, I have mac mount 41” cannon and the tail isn’t much different, I can take some pics when I get home

You could shorten the tail on the husky, but it’s not needed, I like cutting out the tail so it’s easier to get the bar on, and can give you mor adjustment, I also run the slimline spacers for more clearance

I just looked at my micro fiche slides and found 3-10 E but not 5-10 but might be similar .I get up real early in the morning, like 4:30- 5 AM .I'll get on it before the rooster crows .In the mean time you might be able to epoxy the brush holder with something .
Do you happen to have a picture of the wiring on the 3-10E? If it is really similar it could let me know what goes where. Everything is disconnected so I don’t have any idea where things go. I would really appreciate it if you do, when you have time of course. No rush

Here is a 5-10E IPL that may help. Somewhere think I have service info on the battery/charging arrangement of the E's as well, but it's not yet found it's way to my actual organized/categorized Mac library. May take some digging to find it if indeed I even have it. I know I've seen it somewhere before..., maybe posted by someone else along the line.

I do not have a wiring diagram .The picture is unclear what is or might be attached and where but I assume under a screw on the brush holder .You might try a continuity check to see if one brush might already connected to ground .If the other doesn't show continuity to ground it should the where the hot wire goes .BTW I have never seen the workings of a battery start saw,Mac or otherwise if there ever was another company making them .Keep in mind this is all for naught unless it has s a working battery which would be highly unlikely being over 50 years old .
When I find the time I'll get out the "Mc Bob CD " and look at the paper IPL's .

Thank you so much everyone. I was lost and couldn’t find anything online, so I really do appreciate it. I have looked on this forum for info on my other saws in the past and had a feeling this was the place to ask.

Just got a notification on this saw up in WI. Is it 3-25, or what is you alls thinking. Wish my buddy hadn't moved, and this guy wouldn't have stripped it.
