When the market goes up we feedlot guys eat chicken. When it’s going down we eat steak. I’ve been eating a lot of chicken lately lol.

Us too. We just took a cow with corkscrew claw hoof to the slaughterhouse though. Beef is coming to our table soon.

Checking on the start of fall calves this morning, any day now. Fog was holding in low areas before the sun hit. Only took about 5 minutes before the sun made this disappear.

Started hauling out the last 2 bean bins for my brother.

Got rye ???

IMG_1573.jpeg

IMG_1572.jpeg

That’s how much was still in them after adding 2 screens to the auger.

IMG_1574.jpeg

These 2 piles are just from loading the front hopper on the trailer.

AGP told me to hit the road they weren’t taking them. 160 mile round trip.

I told him last fall there was probably 300-400 bushel of rye in each bin. I think my estimate was pretty low after seeing todays results.

I believe he is looking for a tumbling screener/cleaner to help out with this debacle.

A few guys up here raise rye and soybeans together in split rows. 60” of rye drilled 7.5” apart and beans on 15” rows. Combined at the same time and sorted out with a screener. One guy I talk to often says it yields like two normal crops. He claims it grows a full crop of each and will get 50bu beans and 75bu rye when planted together.

Fall calving start on my little place. Wish I had about a thousand to sell right now. 200-300 range were hitting over $5. I couldn't even begin to start getting into this now with land and cattle prices the way they are. Too close to NW Arkansas now and people think land here is worth just as much as there because Walmart and things.

Do you have any issues with black headed vultures down there ?

The local radio stations out of NW MO have had alerts to keep an eye out for them.

Dad said that he had a couple around his cows/calves.

In the spring they arrive here to terrorize our critters. Worse predator to come along since I've been messing with cattle.

Same radio announcements here. Lost a week old calf last year to them. If I see them I will try to get a shot at one but since I have a day job that is hard to do. I think of the three S's in regards to them. See a lot of them around the lakes and on the highway in the area. I know of several places around where they roost but people who own the land won't do anything about them. Funny you ask today, I took this picture yesterday morning on the lake of nothing but black headed vultures riding a thermal. Light colored under the wingtips are a dead giveaway.

I figure the vultures will be moving out of here in a month or so & the eagles will be moving back in.
