I understand that they like it better.....and get more nutrition from those type bales. Something to think about as my herd grows.
Lots of benefits to it. You get em bailed up sooner, lose less leaves etc.
If you gotta move em with a spear before you're ready to feed them you just tape up the puncture hole with tuck tape.

Something else I've noticed with feeding wrapped rounds is that they seem to last a little longer. Not sure exactly why but I think it may be because of the extra nutritional value. The cows don't have to eat as much to get the same nutrition.

Dairy cows, pageant queens of the livestock world. Lol

Tried some beans on 30"s this year.
They yield similar. I tried 30s 15s and 7.5s. Now I just dump them in anything that I can find anyone to run. I sorta dislike cutting the 30s. Kinda liked to try to cut them on a hard angle. They do turn out pretty good.

I have a square baler that I built out of a NH with a JD chute. Hell of a good machine. New plunger slides, and bearing.....new twine fingers and bases. Never been rained on since the rebuild. I'll bale a few out of the second cutting for my neighbor's horses.....but aside from hat, I rarely use it.

It was hit by a car and left in a field to rot......

Field I planted in orchard grass this spring that sprouted & died.

The ragweed seems happy though

We never have much luck planting in the spring around here either, when the rain quits that is the end of it. The cows will eat those ragweed's if you can get them cut before they get tough.
