Laid in around 12,000’ today. We had a crew of 4 and it really showed. Three of us do tiling stuff together often and the 4th guy was down in the hole doing hole bitzch things.

The guy running the cart didn’t know where to go and kept setting the pipe too close to install path so I started scratching a line where I’d be driving with the plow. Then he was in the right place at the right time all the time. That took way less time than stopping to move the dang pipe when he’d get it too close.

Tiling when it’s dry is sooooooo much more enjoyable than doing it when the bottom of the holes look like swimming pools.

Moar tile plowering today !!
IMG_2511.jpeg

I found a rock. Or two. Or three. WTF :BangHead:
IMG_2515.jpeg

Pops had to pull them out of the way with the mini. Usually the rocks move out of the way but these stacked up under the plow and said “Nope”.

Those are a cash crop as well. I believe they were selling any where from $.25 - $.75 a pound at auctions up around Des Moines.

There is probably a market for them around the Twin Cities.

I was talking to my nephew yesterday and we were swapping stories of idiots in FB marketplace. He said awhile back he put 60 large squares of wheat straw online. A guy messaged and asked what they weighed. My nephew told him he did not know. The guy kept hounding him. I wish my nephew would have said something as had he I would have taken my scale over there and weighed them. I am guestimating 600-800lbs but I do not know either. The guy messaged again and asked if he had enough for 800 ton. What am dipstick. The ad was for 60 bales. What did he think they weighed 27,000lbs🫣

$.25 - $.75 a pound ?!?!? Holy crap. This spring I dug out and moved numerous rocks my S300 couldn't pickup but could roll or slide off the field. It'll lift 5,400lbs or more before tipping so they'd each be worth $4k ? That's nuts. I need to get a side-dumper and start hauling down to IA I think.

We call those $10 rocks because we have a guy that comes with a payloader and dump truck and gives us $10 for each of them once every few years. 4-5yrs ago when I first got my first larger excavator (Cat 330) I cleaned off the large rock pile at Dads place and it took him two weeks of hauling with two trucks to make them all his. I think the check was close to $12k ..... for rocks ..... $.75/lb seems nuts .....

Seriously, field rocks are being auctioned?
Never auctioned them but you can come pick them fresh in the field and take them home for $Free99 !!

I will ask him next time I see him. Maybe it was a one time deal. I would imagine that they were bulk buying.

About 40!years ago my mother tried to acquire a large red rock from a neighbor, probably about the size of a large square bale 7’-8’ long by about 4’ wide by 4’ tall. They said $500, Dad about passed out. It’s still sitting in the fence row.

Well cleaned and engraved that could be a very expensive rock
We only had the mini up there so we dug a deeper hole next to it and buried it deeper so it’ll leave us alone for awhile. We briefly discussed getting the 330 to pick it out of there but figured by the time we haul it up there and mess around with that we’d have it buried and covered up again.

That field is like a rocky piggy bank. There are at least 5-6 others we’ve buried deeper. Maybe one day I’ll drag the 330 up there and play for a few days.

The problem with burying things......
They have a way of working themselves back to the top
I put another really big rock on top of that one to hold it underground ;)

Annnnnnnnnnd yet more tile plowering again today !! We dealt with some serious mud today and didn’t have a very productive day. I didn’t anticipate the mud so the dozer is still nestled up all cozy in the shed and we had to use a Versatile 850 to do the tugging. It worked okay but we needed almost 250’ of chain and tow straps to get it onto dry enough ground that it was actually useful lol. No pics of the mud mess as my hands were dirty and the phone stayed in the cab. Maybe Monday I’ll try to snag a few muddy pics. We have more to do yet. We’re going through a soggy area that can’t be drained and installing solid pipe though the muck as it’s the only place to get the tile to drain. It’s fun.

Miss Lily (my eldest) tagged along and helped move shovels/fittings/misc from start hole to start hole. She hopped in the cab for a few runs. I like this kid !! She’s a go getter and is crazy about doing stuff on the farm with her Dad 😁
