The thing I see quite a bit is the bean pod actually shattering when the knife hits. The air would blow them in. And yeah obviously you could run your reel higher. It may be in the longer future but I do think it may be worthwhile. I can’t stand hearing beans bounce off my windshield

We don’t normally do major things on Sunday unless we’re harvesting. One kiddo was riding with me and another with Pops so family time was still active. Church in the morning before starting of course. .....
Years ago my wife took a picture of all three of the boys standing on the side of the combine with me. They were taking turns riding because one was still a toddler and it was tough to get many in the cab. She made a mouse pad from that pic. Sadly now the original is gone . I still have the mouse pad but it is well worn and been retired for years. I wish I had the original picture.

Rolled up some roundies of meadow hay today !! Fairly large windrows out there. This was the first cutting this year for all of the stuff I baled today. The windrow in front of me came out of an 11’ discbine. I already got the one in the missing spot. Bonkers amount of hay !

Pops started hauling them home as soon as I started baling. We plan to start combing corn tomorrow and we didn’t want them to sit in the meadow just in case Mother Nature decides to turn the sprinklers back on.

We’re getting after corn finally !!
IMG_2329.jpeg

22% and averaging a staggering 245bu/a so far. I have room to store around 195bu/a so we’ll have a few trips to make to town if things continue like this. It is a good problem to have for once !!

Unloading on the go like the big boys :dogpile:

It’s always fun roading up hills with the combine. It can be a game of chicken in the blink of an eye.

You need a spotter vehicle out front, the best purchase my brother made was business band radios. They help immensely when moving, let alone communicating while in the field.

We tried regular cb’s but they aren’t as reliable in the hills & don’t have the distance that the business bands have.

The first dump on the go experience I had: I was on a Ford-Ferguson pulling a 150 bu. wagon while dad was in a 750 Massey. I was about 9-10y/o.

Took a moment to eye up my “new” 044 that arrived from Hungry. Both saws came from David Major and so far I couldn’t be happier with the 066 and I’m pumped to get the 044 into some wood today.

Roughly 500’ into the first pass of the day and the belt tensioner bracket for the straw spreaders broke and the spreaders stopped spinning and plugged the entire combine up. This was about half the pile of cobs and trash that came out. I asked Pops “Didn’t the alarm go off when they stopped spinning ?” He says “yeah but I hit the alarm button and it shut off.” 🤦🏼‍♂️

The day finished much better with a killer sunset.

Added some more to these and did a sort on Sunday. Kept a few for replacement and butcher and the rest went to market. Seeing prices 2.35 to 2.95 for 500# range. Can't complain about that.

One Silkie chicken less, predator bird had a good meal I guess.
I am not going to post closeup pictures.

Thankfully my remaining 3 runner ducks are fine, a bit scared though.
Sorry to hear that...we have some red-tail hawks that occasionally thin out our flock of layer chickens. Unfortunately I think that birds of prey are protected here. (of course there is the S-S-S method of controlling the problem, but I'd NEVER do that!

I have no desire to harm wildlife.
I have blinking deterrents hung up in my back yard and for the most part they work great - till they don't during cloud coverage and when wind hangs them up onto branches.

Also, a huge close by walnut is dropping its leaves and I have seen the bird sitting in its crown eyeing my yard.
