I lost another one today, again female.
Was alive 2 hours prior.
Down to one female.
As far as I can tell no wounds and no egg stuck in her butt.

This is not fun!
Always in the PM.
Maybe a combination of too hot (up to 40°C), too much moist in the air (really hard to breathe), exhausted from egg laying?
The drakes seem fine, they are 2 years old now.
We used to have a vet here that would post anything you wanted him to. He wanted to see himself what killed it.

We had 2 calves this week. Gypsy and Donner. 1 more on the way. Donner had a twin but it was dead. Due to cramped space from the twin Donner’s front feet tendins are tight so we do therapy on him daily stretching them a little bit. He’s getting way better.

Do you have trouble with the grass growing so fast it gets bitter? We used to mow and bale parts of one pasture early to stimulate growth. In a good spring it grew too fast and the cows did not like it.
Not really. It gets tough late in the summer, and they avoid it if possible.

Cows are very finicky on what they will eat. Dad always swore they would not eat dry stalk bales from BT corn. I did not agree or disagree because that would be futile. I just said they sure as hell do not turn their nose up at BT silage.

Super pretty. Just crazy as hell. Fun till it wasnt
A hot chick is like a flatbed on a pickup …. It’s a great idea but you can turn a corner and lose half your stuff in the blink of an eye.

Guys say that up here as well. I purchased some corn straw bales from an organic guy a few years ago and shoved one of them and one of my very much not organic bales in front of the steers and they were both gone in the same amount of time as they always were. So I dunno if it makes a difference. Didn’t seem to here 🤷‍♂️

We had three thunderstorms last night and 2.5 inches of rain. Hallelujah!
Just in time for the pecans to start sizing.

Many years ago after my uncles were killed in WWII my grandmother joined the Gold Star Mothers. I remember as a child her selling pecans from the Schermer Pecan Company. That was their annual fundraiser. I loved them.

Got 63 4x6’s of the nicest upland hay I’ve ever baled done yesterday. Barely got done blowing the baler off and it started to rain just as I pulled into the shed to park it. Perfect timing for once !!

Seems like it was only a year ago she was riding there in a car seat. I spent a lot of time in that same seat when the 7810 was new and I’m all smiles that the kiddos want to be involved !!

There is a tree standing in the middle of some of the best land in our upper river bottom bay. It was always said to be a Pecan tree but I am not sure. I know around 25 years ago I looked around the base and saw what appeared to me to be Hickory nuts. Do you know how to identify a Pecan tree because I sure do not.
