So, around here these are planted as "green fertilizer" after the wheats are harvested, meaning they will get plowed under soon or freeze in the winter.
They look fantastic and I am told they are great & safe for animal food.
What I wanna know, are they good/safe for human consumption?!
This is just a mid sized one, there are much bigger ones in the fields!
Yes, I know it is a radish.

Daikon radishes are awesome soil amenders. They also mine minerals from pretty deep. Break up hardpan clay soil too.

I push mine around with a loader to unroll. Is there a tool for this job? How’d you get that outta the picture??
Yes, baler unrollers are manufactured for 3pt use on tractors & bale beds on pickups.

They are really handy

In the photo that front corner is hinged & operated off a hydraulic cylinder.

The units have fingers/triangles that pinch the bale in the center.

Thanks fellers. Never knew they were a thing. Old man used to go Turkey hunting out in the hills somewhere VA I believe. He said that old guy pushed them down a big hill. Guess they unrolled on the way down
That works......till one runs over a calf. LOL

I'll get you some pictures in the morning when I feed them. Several times I will load them backwards from how they were baled so as to fluff the hay and not put as much in a single location. Takes longer to unroll but less waste most times. Dad had cataract surgery done last year so we baled late and the stuff I am feeding has a lot of stems. Got to work on getting earlier cuts done in the upcoming years.

So you clamp him then drag him to unroll ??
Yes. I can pick it up from ground contact and unroll where ever I want. Takes a bit of practice to hit close to the middle of the bale, but it is no problem to unclamp and move the points.

My buddy Chase just sold 100 pairs the other day, he is down to 125 pairs now. He said we are going to tear up some hay ground & he will have more row crop. I guess I will have more free time this summer…
