Hopefully we will get done next week. The last of my brothers goes to the Ethanol plant as done the neighbors 50 acres.
Good luck and happy holiday to you and the fellas. I’m glad to be done. Been a different year out this way. Had a combine “fire” one day cutting soys. Just smoldering soy doesn’t burn so well. Ram a metal bed frame through the rotor and she sparked up everywhere inside. Didn’t do any damage just cost me a full day trying to get it out. Just smoldering all over the whole machine

Dads 9570 had an electrical fire when we were running beans, new wiring harnesses from the cab back. I saw the old harnesses laying on the ground after being replaced, there must of been 100’ or more of harness. I believe it was an $8k harness.

I pulled under with the auger cart & thought I saw smoke coming out the back but convinced myself it was dust as the sun was shining in my eyes on dirty windows. Then I saw smoke coming out the feederhouse & the combine died while Dad was unloading. I got it under control before it the fire department showed up but there was still something smoldering in the rotor/feederhouse area. We dumped about 1200-1500 gallon of water on/thru it.

A friend sent me this

Classic 1986 Fiat 1355C crawler | Ploughing with …:
Thats pretty cool.

The older NRCS employees around here would go into seizures if they saw a plow being pulled around here. The younger ones either haven’t been around agriculture enough or are too young & dumb to know what the hell that roll-over plow is/was.

The younger “farmers“ here would have no clue how to operate that unit wirhout autosteer & mapping.

So, around here these are planted as "green fertilizer" after the wheats are harvested, meaning they will get plowed under soon or freeze in the winter.
They look fantastic and I am told they are great & safe for animal food.
What I wanna know, are they good/safe for human consumption?!
This is just a mid sized one, there are much bigger ones in the fields!
Yes, I know it is a radish.

Radishes & turnips get planted here too. Cattle love them. They get planted for erosion control, fertilizer & for compaction reduction
As far as I know they are safe to eat. I will ask a couple fellas that are familiar with them.

According to two fellas that deal with them, yes they are. They may not be as flavorful as garden varieties but still safe. My buddy Chase & his father-in-law eat the turnips quite often.

My buddy’s FIL works for Iowa State Extension Service & has delved into the nutritional info for cattle & humans. I would definitely put a splash of salt on it while snacking on it.
