When you say knife register What exactly is the knife register. I'm the guy who works on this haybine for the last 6 or plus years but I'm not familiar with the actual names of some of these parts. I have looked into the stub guards I think I'm going to stick with the standard ones because I have several me guards on shelf. I can't see changing it over just yet. I believe the stub guards are the better setup though
Register is how the knives center in the guards at each end of the stroke. They should be dead centered. Has a lot to do with how well it cuts and how fast you can go with out plugging. I cannot recommend stub guards high enough. There just is no comparison in the performance. You won't get disc bine speed but you will be able to cover substantially more ground.

I agree the stub is a better way but I have plenty of guards for it laying around I don't have much trouble cutting anything off The problem I run into is when I'm planting corn and the hay gets put on the back burner It's not important to me when I have my crops to put in first. My first cutting this year was after some folks had already got thier second off. I'm not sure how I would adjust the register you speak of. Is that in the actual wobble box itself? I don't see where you could move the actual placement of the box

I've never done it on a New Holland. Only Hesston's and that's a whole different system.

I see I was just studying the ol girl. I believe mine to be fixed unless you can adjust the actual wobble box but I sorta doubt it. I think my knife is bent just enough to give me problems with my bushings. They are notorious for bushings going out. The thing that irritates me with it is I know these ol girls are made to go out and cut many acres fairly trouble free Mine on the other hand may do 60 or may do 2 and then act like a prick. I've been all over it Gonna try a new knife and see how that goes for me

Hey does that mean you can cut from either side

Yes, you can cut from one side of a field, No more driving on the ends. You can just hit the lever and swing the mower and turn right back around.
I'll always have a swingbine from now on. We had 2 489's and two 499's the 489's haven't moved since we go the 499's.

After work I've got some fencing and gate work ahead of me. Pastures are burning out quickly up my way.

Yes indeed they are. I have two more paddocks to go and if the other four don't get to regrowing I'll be feeding hay early. Neighbor commented yesterday if I keep building fence I'll need more cows. I said, fence first.

Most years I try to not to feed bales until after Thanksgiving. I'll be feeding in a few weeks if things don't change.

If it doesn't rain I'll be combining half the night for a full bin.

:( :BangHead:
