Would 6mm, just a hair over 1/4", be too short?

.243=6mm, so it's only as long as it is wide..... The scale may be out of whack too, meaning it may look too large & gaudy for all it has to hold?

Exactly. To fill all the threads (and hopefully not vibrate loose) I use a screw that's a little longer than the collapsed rivet. I use red loctite too.

But i can say that it's very difficult to weld it.
The stainless steel of the stihl muffler is thin... very thin

I have made a muffler mod on a 661CM
I will post on the forum one time that I have test it

The stainless on these are a pita to weld but it’s much easier if you use .030 stainless mig wire as filler rather than normal 1/16” tig rods. Clean metal and an overly pointy tungsten helps too.
Riv-nuts ftw though.

I have try with 0.8 mm mig wire and it is to thin for me.
I have try with 1mm tungsten, 15 to 20 amp of dc courant and it wasn't good

I would like to find 1mm or 1.5 mm tig rod but in France it is very hard

I perhaps have find a solution with brazing with tig welder and silicon bronze ( cusi3) tig rods.
Waiting to found it and wil try

I use rivet nuts and button head fasteners rather than welding to the thin stainless material.
