#1 My name is Bill
#2 Bud was my uncle
I believe @JoeDirt is a college kid working at a auto parts store.
I know a "bit" about skilled labor.
I taught trades education for years
Yes skilled labor is in demand but anyone who gets his/her panties in wad thinking they are irreplaceable is indeed replaceable.
They will quickly find out.
#1 You must be real fun at parties.
#2 That’s sarcasm.
Indeed, everyone is replaceable. Most jobs will have your position posted before the funeral.

I’ve worked for some great bosses, and great companies in the past. I’ve also worked where I was just another number - felt like a beggar working at those jobs. All of these experiences shaped me to who I am today, and why I’m self employed. I’ve had some very nice offers to work elsewhere in the meantime, but having freedom is worth a lot to me.

Some are more easily replaced than others. Some are damn difficult to replace. Some competitors would be very happy to grab the guy you get rid of that has all the training and certification's. So use a narrower brush.

I do agree on the bridge thing though.
There is no doubt some are easier to replace than others but leaving on job on a sour note is never good.

Calling out people for not doing their jobs and refusing to work in unsanitary conditions is the correct behavior. Accepting to work in chitty conditions when not desperate for that paycheck, makes one a cuck! I fail to see how that is burning a bridge.

Through the years most folks will have good bosses and bad ones. The key is to just keep your cool and get through. Years ago I was on a job that we would run out of material regularly. Dusty and I were sitting in the control room waiting on the driers to catch up. Ole Freddy G comes walking in trying to be Mr Big. I am not really sure what his job classification was but it was not in our department. He starts giving us *s-word about being in the control room. He said "go find a broom" I start to get up and the operators start laughing. The supervisor says "sit the hell down Freddy isn't your boss I am. I will tell you when we are ready to start the next run"

Did you read how he went about expressing his concerns?

If you put up with those conditions of backed up sewage for over 3 weeks, would you be kind about it, when no one has done a thing? Or would you be direct, and maybe a little loud, to get something done?

Joe isn’t in the wrong here.

Advance Auto, but yeah, big yellow/red parts store. They are closing 700+ stores in the first half of 2025, and I think it's a general sign of the direction of this company. I actually did call the sewer authority who came out to make sure it wasn't their lines, and they've been checking in, but this is going on now 3 weeks?, not fully repaired. They'll be the ones who get the health department involved.

This job is not a career for me, its just a way to cover some bills while I get through college, but that doesn't mean I want to work in a *s-wordshow every day.

Advance, yikes. Yeah, you need to get outta there and don't look back. If you like working in auto parts then I say dealership parts department all the way. Literally everything will be better including the clientele.

I would have mashed someone's mouth by now. But having done that a few times in the past, I realize that it isn't the right thing to do. But....sometimes a person needs a fat lip.

Or, just say to them "I'm sorry to see that you think walking through sewage at work is acceptable. I have too much self-respect to put up with that, not to mention an aversion to Hep-C, so Adios!"

That says a lot for your position.
No, it says a lot for how out of touch you are.

That's pretty much what it's coming to. I was very cordial in my email and in meeting with the DM. But I was also very matter-of-factly and wasn't just taking his excuses at face value like everyone else. In the end, he still failed to address the issues, as they are either over his head or he simply doesn't care, but when I put in a two-weeks notice over this stuff, I don't want to hear, "why didn't you come to us sooner with these issues?"

I've been paying a lot of attention to Bill's posts. He likes to argue. A hell of a lot. Doesn't matter what subject, he goes on the offense as if it is his default position.

That ain't what he said Bill. Read it again maybe.

Many years ago there was a young woman at work that got upset and was looking for a new job. She found what she thought was a great job. When she got ready to leave she told off the employer. Well her new job was not as good as she thought. About three weeks after leaving us she was asking for her old job back. They took her back but she lost her seniority and had to start at the bottom of the pay scale again.

Correct, I thought he said he put his two weeks in. My mistake.

Yup, that is why I said what I said. You are just being a little hard on Joe is all.

I've noticed this. Right-fighters are a difficult personality type.
