I was taught to run a bead up the side and get just enough shrink to pull them out. On the farm it was with 6013 and an AC buzz box. Tig sounds much cleaner. Install was get the block as warm as you could in the shop and take the sleeves from the freezer and drop them in. Dry ice worked good for the shrink as well.
A little tig weld goes a long ways with pulling them but it sure makes me miss doing wet sleeves.

I’ll be using liquid nitrogen to set the sleeves into the block if they aren’t a drop in loctite fit. Good trick to keep the weld spatter at bay is a little Pam cooking spray on the surfaces you don’t want anything to stick.

Try a combination of dry ice and liquid nitrogen @Skeans1 . It makes the liquid quite a bit colder. I never believed it until I tried it on some bronze and steel bushing installs. Saved me pressing them in.

I’ve got about a five thousand clearance so they’re all in the freeze overnight and have a pusher rigged up for morning to try before getting out liquid nitrogen. Basically anything to save me a trip into town right is a good idea.

Big maple had a back lean into the neighbors shed. Saved this one for last and brought out the green wedge to bring it back this way. Tractor didn’t even know the tree was back there. Used a 14,000lb mini excavator on all the other trees. It helps being next to a farm! The crew was very gracious for the pulls.DB4B1F40-B082-4CAD-B149-DBC16A2DDD7A.jpeg DADFEEE2-4B23-41E0-A7E0-3C297BA8D994.jpegD6C04ED5-405C-4F42-A68E-A11E78984382.jpeg 5D5B80D7-5027-4CD1-B131-9F2A295DD4AA.jpeg46258C9B-0E7F-453F-8E62-F4E0E44BA5D6.jpeg
