This is the first Stihl I’ve had since I’ve started cutting, we haven’t had once since the 064 days. A good way to put it is it and a 390 husky are neck and neck with the weight of a 372 it’s a nice little combo for all day falling. The only saw full of fuel was the 500i and it’s the only saw that has aftermarket dawgs.

What kind of fuel economy do you get out it compared to a 390?

Pretty similar the 390 might be a touch better but not much. One of the big ones yesterday took 2 tanks including manufacturing, one tank for the face, one for the rest.

Yeah just the front spring, foam piece, and the rubbers for the cases.

My back is liking that more and more everyday I’d be hard pressed to give it up unless the wood really warrantied it. I’m noticing I’m adjusting my grind more aggressive then what I use to run to keep load on the saw.

Have you ever rebuilt a jack ram before?

We have a local guy (I'm sure Mr. C has been to his shop many times) that lives west of Roseburg that can pretty much rebuild any part of a Silvey tree jack. He's a retired faller
himself and he runs a business called Timberland Enterprises. He's built special tooling over the years to do anything to the jacks. Last time I was at his shop, he was about three-four
months out. He had sixteen sets of backpack jacks in the shop for overhaul. He repaired mine in the mid-90's. He also does custom bars and bar repairs and he's built me five
custom bars over the years.

@HYPERSAWS and I have cut three units right behind his house in the Callahans, and one right around the corner. Pretty rocky ground there, with a nice view of Roseburg.

This 500 I have now is quite a bit better on fuel than that first one I had almost a couple years ago. That same saw is in the shop for no spark. They have replaced everything but the flywheel I guess, with no luck. That saw burnt a lot of fuel. But the one I’m currently using is perfectly acceptable.

It’s pretty convenient that the re-prod out of the unit is all dead. It makes opening up easy, and you can get the lead you want pretty much instantly. As long as it’s not a property line and the landowner is all good with it.
