Really, it's the same old saw it always was, other than the fact that the points type ignition isn't made by Bosch, it has Stihl logos on it and the carburetor isn't a Tillitson, it's made by ZAMA. Still has the old style slotted "cheese head" type fastener heads and everything.

Haven't had much interesting in a while, well, that changed when finally, I was able to test out this new Stihl 070 that @NightRogue sent me.
While it pales in comparison to the modern saw, I believe that if @mirage can up the sprocket tooth count, she can be an even better cutter, as it has plenty of power left to bear, running about 700 rpm over stock here and still a touch on the fat side for breaking in. I actually had fun working on this 105cc beast I affectionately call Porky Pig because of its all-metal heft. The only thing that didn't go smooth was getting the carburetor to prime without pulling it a thousand times. It took three times squirting mix down the carb throat before it would sustain running. Other than that a few tweaks on the adjustment screws and it was humming along all on its own.
As far as mods go, it got the full treatment, machining, porting, timing, carb, governor and muffler mods. Tried not to get too radical as for one, it'll knock the stuffing out of the bottom end if you get too crazy and for another, it had to be easy to start as well. I think I hit the mark fairly well. These things don't run that fast to begin with.

Your video isn’t up any more

Can't recall ever doing a stock out of the box video, but this 564XP has garnered some excitement and I thought it would be good to see what it was all about. First of all, I noticed in the book was that its peak power is made at 10,800 RPM. Which is pretty high for a stock saw, normally about 9,000 RPM is peak power developed in a stock saw in the majority of cases. So, it's running up there pretty high at that.
Starting was very simple and easy, prime it and pull it. Took two pulls and it started and stayed running. I bawked a little until it figured out where it was in the world and adjusted to it very quickly. Left it idle to warm up and made a few firewood cuts, nothing extravagant by any means, just something to get some chips flowing. Chain is a new Husqvarna X-cut, it and the saw were smooth as can be, I have to say it was fairly effortless feeling cutting with it. Vibration is nonexistent and the saw just feels good holding it. Not quite sure how to express that other than it felt like it was where it was supposed to be. Hate to say it, but this could very well be the one saw and done that everyone that's ever used a saw before has dreamed of. If, of course, it keeps doing what it is supposed to over time, that remains to be seen yet.
My overall rating of it for now is; optimistic.

You gonna dismember it now?
Sadly, no, this one is going to stay as is. It does give me a sneak peek at it though to let the gears turn a little bit for the next one that's on order when it comes in and I get to play with it for a while.

How would you compare it to a muffler modded 372?
Well, I wouldn't stop cutting with it to pick up one, put it that way.

I cut up some firewood and was again a bit struck by how smooth and the level of control over what I was doing. I'm not the best cutter out there by any means, this made me look like I knew what I was doing. I shut it off for a time and then made a video hot starting it and making a cut in a larger log. Which it seemed to do fine, granted I have no idea just how hot I got the saw, so don't take this too seriously. I wonder if others having issues are compounded by poor or bad canned fuel. At any rate I thought I would see what would happen and it was much to do about nothing for now. More time and experiences should get a better perspective of what is happening to some and why.

Wait until you get the other one to mess with. They accept mods quite well. Just a muff mod and gasket delete makes it act like a different saw. That’s how my brother is running his. I ported mine, it was good then I advanced the timing and it really came to life. They have good port timing out of the box.

Sadly that one was cancelled today in favor of a 562xpg instead. Logging can't wait for Husqvarna but so long, and there's no telling when the xpg will be available when they don't even have all the XP's they sold out yet. Can't blame a fella that needs the tool to do the job to make a living with. That's okay there will be more to come along eventually.
