Don't quote me on this, but wouldn't the MS 720 the one with the open port cylinder? Was it an open port cylinder?
Haven't had much interesting in a while, well, that changed when finally, I was able to test out this new Stihl 070 that @NightRogue sent me.
While it pales in comparison to the modern saw, I believe that if @mirage can up the sprocket tooth count, she can be an even better cutter, as it has plenty of power left to bear, running about 700 rpm over stock here and still a touch on the fat side for breaking in. I actually had fun working on this 105cc beast I affectionately call Porky Pig because of its all-metal heft. The only thing that didn't go smooth was getting the carburetor to prime without pulling it a thousand times. It took three times squirting mix down the carb throat before it would sustain running. Other than that a few tweaks on the adjustment screws and it was humming along all on its own.
As far as mods go, it got the full treatment, machining, porting, timing, carb, governor and muffler mods. Tried not to get too radical as for one, it'll knock the stuffing out of the bottom end if you get too crazy and for another, it had to be easy to start as well. I think I hit the mark fairly well. These things don't run that fast to begin with.
It's set public and got 86 views...You Restricted it somehow
It plays for me.It's set public and got 86 views...
If it doesn't go, I still have the original yet and will re-upload it again and get rid of this one.
Works for me.You Restricted it somehow
It'll take it, it's got torque for days. I could lean all I wanted and couldn't stuff it. Saw motor just beared down and took it.Got it now! That saw sounds great. Now throw an 11 pin on that thing!
Sadly, no, this one is going to stay as is. It does give me a sneak peek at it though to let the gears turn a little bit for the next one that's on order when it comes in and I get to play with it for a while. You gonna dismember it now?
For the small stuff like I was cutting, it's got the edge I would say with its higher RPM.How would you compare it to a muffler modded 372?
Well, I wouldn't stop cutting with it to pick up one, put it that way.How would you compare it to a muffler modded 372?
Sadly that one was cancelled today in favor of a 562xpg instead. Logging can't wait for Husqvarna but so long, and there's no telling when the xpg will be available when they don't even have all the XP's they sold out yet. Can't blame a fella that needs the tool to do the job to make a living with. That's okay there will be more to come along eventually.Wait until you get the other one to mess with. They accept mods quite well. Just a muff mod and gasket delete makes it act like a different saw. That’s how my brother is running his. I ported mine, it was good then I advanced the timing and it really came to life. They have good port timing out of the box.
