Was this a M-Tronic saw? The one I had was not. I'm also curious, do the M-Tronic ones weight more than the non M-Tronic ones? I ask because the Auto Tune 576s weigh more than the non auto tune ones.

I know a lot of people complain about the weight of a 441, but I never notice mine to be that heavy.

This saw is not mtronic. I would imagine mtronic is a bit heavier. An ounce or 2 of wire, an ounce or 2 of solenoids. I don't really notice it much, but I'm not dragging it through the woods 8 hours a day. 066 is heavy. 7900 is heavy. 026 is light. Everything else is somewhere in the middle.

Somewhere I have scale pics of my 460s and my 441CM. The 441cm is less than an ounce heavier than a 460. Tanks dry.

There are just more pieces in one of these than in a 460. And steel av springs are heavier than rubber. An air filter surround, an air filter cover, the piston, the strato...it all adds up.

I think Randy was referring to the 441c (m-tronic) IIRC.

Bah! Up until the Central PA G2G over Memorial Day weekend, we had been getting along just fine. Apparently going off to cut cookies on a 90+ deg day with high humidity was not something she wanted to do. She launched the e-clip for the clutch drum into low earth orbit during a routine sprocket change and then after I found it (how, I'll never know) and got it back together, she spit it out again, this time mid-cookie. That clip and the drum washer are now a permanent part of a cornfield in PA somewhere and my sprocket bearing was roasted in the process as well which ended the day for that saw. So upon returning home, she's got sent to the "time-out" shelf for mis-behaving.

It was freakin hot out that day. My 1050 started pumping fuel past the carb gaskets, and the 6100 vapor locked. When I pulled the fuel cap, fuel was boiling in the tank!

I think I would be hard pressed to tell the difference in weight between the 441, and the later C-M version. I will say this, having run a couple examples of both, the C-M saws do not exhibit ANY of the cold-blooded behavior typical to a lot of newer Strato-engined saws.

You really woke that saw up. That's a lot of parts to assemble buddy. I think I'll stick with massaging saws my own age.

I swapped rims on my 461 yesterday , same gig , you almost have to pry it out to get it out of the recess in the washer..i keeps me a big bag of e-clips.

Part of how I evaluate saws is watching experienced cutters and what they prefer. I realize there are guys out there that put more hours on a saw in a week than I will in a year or more.
My climber, and most experienced guy, loves to run the Snellerized 362 and Mastermind 064 but whenever there is a tree where he wants pinpoint control and is going to drop a big tree with a bore cut he calls for the stock MS441.
When I asked why he prefers it even over bigger saws in big wood he explained that it has such a smooth power band that it doesn't chatter on the bore cut, he slides it in like butter exactly where he wants it and it holds a nice constant rpm throughout. When you are dropping a big half dead split monster over a national registry home with no room for bucket or crane, you want to feel what the tree is doing through the saw and not have any surprises.

I can see what he means. If an old Poulan 2300 top handle is a 3, an 044 is a 7, 441 is an 8 or 9. It's more similar to a 7900 in the cut. I can see them being more forgiving while bore cutting
