I still have no idea why anyone would buy the wrong dawgs for a saw and attempt to make them fit with the many options of sizes/colors/shapes you can purchase on ebay for a reasonable price that were made to fit your saw...

Sorry...that made sense , ill try to make it harder to understand next time.
They're ubiquitous. I don't buy them for intended use on 1128s; they come with the cheap AM covers. Ever use those?

I used a few cheap ass ones to hack up in my efforts to find a way to clear noodles efficiently..but outside of that not really.

After reading all.of the conversation about them, I now realize why mine don't fit. He left the Farmertec dogs on it without a catch, so I got one of the cheap Chinese plastic rollers to use. No bueno, but I managed to make it fit.

In the future, I'll try to find some lower profile ones that fit properly.

The factory sized dual dogs are just fine on that series of saw..some of the aftermarket options have a thicker gauge which make them a little tougher if you like to use your saw as a battering ram when you buck logs or fell trees.

Sorry again.

Nice. Common ground--- perfect use for them or a busted oem.

Here's one of my 064s used as a dedicated noodler. No catch (thinking saw should be buried in wood and not used to cut much else)--

Am single spike I ground down. We found the sharper dawgs to hang up here. Another case for small dawgs, depending on what you're cutting.

I modded a set of AM spikes to fit my 362, what a PITA!!!

They were case hardened, and could not be drilled. Had to punch them to elongate the holes to get them to line up.

Did it, but was not worth it.

Agree with Ryan on this one.

Hardly worth the effort when you can buy the right ones for 20 bucks.

That's just me though.

I ended up doing a bunch of MS460s to sell...and I had a pile of 660 spikes. They just don't line up. :(

Needless to say, I was hoping to save money on building these saws, but just couldn't get around getting new OEM spike kits. Every AM kit I tried (even though they were advertised for a 460) didn't fit right.

Bummer

Yea, 460s are great saws, but can be a little frustrating in ways. As mentioned, the outer spike will never quite line up (w/440 or 660 spikes), and the chain cover does not exchange with 046 or other covers that are not drilled for the studs with the larger bosses (although I like the lager bosses, and put 460 studs on my 660). They hold the bar better.

Those studs aren't just 460 studs. They were an updated PN# for all large mount saws.
I put them on my flat top 066 and had to counterbore the cover........5 min fix

That's weird, last year I rebuilt a really strong 460 for a good friend of mine, he asked me for an outer spike and I just had a spare one from my 064. It was a perfect fit.

I'm still blown away by the generosity of folks. I can't believe that the saw is gonna be a beast AND have a new, durable finish.

Dude, that thing is gorgeous. Knowing your reputation, and having talked to you, I know every single thing that needs done has been.
