I do have a command 20hp from a mud buddy in my pile, but I will try to find parts first. If it was mine, the command would be in. At least some wiring and tin fab would be necessary. I don't know about shafts yet.

I know if I still had that 446 it would have a v twin today. That onan was pretty tired.

When my wife and I got married and bought our first house, I was able to snag up this old Gilson lawn tractor that had been brought to the small engine shop I worked at and then it was wheeled to the metal scrap area. I got permission to take it home and after new belts and fixing the tensioner system, I mowed with this tractor for a few years until another opportunity came along.. 11hp Briggs and a 38” deck.D726E39A-F03D-4A99-8F96-D47D3B4FB44C.jpeg

I would have a hard time scrapping an Onan. I think they are the smoothest, quietest engine ever made. My tractor is a Scotts 2048 that was given to me with a scattered Briggs. I replaced it with a 23hp Briggs with 40 hours on it. What a dog. I replaced that with an 18hp Onan vertical that I freshened up. The Onan is a torque monster compared to the Briggs.

Here is my IH Cub Cadet 70 and my Murray.
I bought the Murray from my neighbor for $50. Some new parts got it going, but the 14hp Briggs twin had a small oil leak. I dealt with adding oil every so often for 1.5 years. I then got a Crapsman mower for free that a tree fell on, but the Briggs 19.5hp twin ran great, so I did an engine swap. I’ve done various cosmetic mods over the years.
I bought the IH Cub Cadet from a family friend for $50. Some new parts got it running, but it needed engine rebuild so I’m rebuilding that right now. Next I have to bend the forks in the tranny back in place, reinstall the rebuilt motor, and get new tires for it.

Those larger Murrays are way underrated, and can be found in very nice shape for alot less than the equivalent Cub or JD. OEM parts are cheap and still very easy to find.
