I was always curious about these tractors. My grandmothers partner had one throughout all my youth. I never paid attention then. And long before I started with firewood, she sold it for some extra money. Later, before I bought the WH, I always wished I had the MF. But I must admit, I'm very pleased with the 312-8.

It's not very big. Nor is it very powerful. But, it's really cool. LOL

Back here in our gardens of Manitoba and Saskatchewan we called the little Ford N series the ultimate garden tractor.:D
Good read here from a farmer who restored one here in Manitoba with a flat head V8

After the 3rd time I read this Winnipeg Free Press writeup on this 1948 V8 Ford 8N build. I really want to build one.
Dual exhaust glass packs tucked in underneath the chassis?
60mph on the highway? Cool little tractor.
Already got a couple of 1949 ford pickups in mind with V8 flatheads and a few 8N that need some attention:rolleyes:

Here's a couple of mine. First is a Cub Cadet 1641 bought new in 1994. In addition to the mower deck it has a 54" hydraulic angle plow that I used for years to plow the driveway.

Next is a 1963 Allis-Chalmers B-112 with factory bucket loader that I've had for about 20 years. I fully restored the tractor and really need to get some paint on the loader someday.

I grew up with a couple old Gravely 816s. We had a mower and from Mount rotary plow that looked like some sort of torture device. No pics, but it was a good old machine. Dad sold it and a couple rear engine snappera and bought a zero turn.

My Honda powered 4x4 wheel barrow called a Muck Truck Max.
Best hired man I ever had
Weighs 280lbs and can carry factory rated payload of 800lbs up a 40% grade flight of stairs.

These were known as the "Funk" conversion .The Funk brothers, originally from Akron Ohio, later Coffeyville Kansas used Ford 8BA Ford v8's in place of the approx 30 HP 4 cylinder engines .Not too many were made because with three times the power( 100 HP ) they tore up the rear ends .Damned things would run about 50 MPH at 3500 RPM which was nearly twice the speed of the 4 cylinders .
It's off the subject of garden tractors but I knew of a guy who adapted a 70 HP Opal engine t0 an 8N Ford that would also run about that fast and also was hard on rear ends and axles .
