There is no sense in cutting pine for firewood - but I've probably felled more feral pine this year, in dollars earned, than any other tree work.
Last week included a big conifer removal, and this morning was a willow prune.
Firewood is a tiny fraction of what I cut.

AND STAY OUT !!!!!!!

Stupid baffle

It's now running lean so that a good sign airflow has improved.

Am I better off winding the idle back with the LA or richening the L circuit to bring the idle speed back down?

Don't know what it's doing at WOT yet, will check that out bush next time I cut with it. It's bloody loud and I have close neighbours.

What's that out of, your 660?

So just removing that baffle leaned out the idle mixture? Crikey, what was it doing at WOT?

Yeah my 066

It picked up a noticeable few hundred rpm at idle even with the front of the baffle drilled out with a 16mm hole saw

Seems a 92 cc saw likes a nice open space to breath out into

Ahhh I also cleaned the air filter in hot soapy water to remove all the super fines which may have helped air flow as well.

I plan to put a velocity stack and ram pod air filter on it when it gets rebuilt and ported

I think the baffle was restrictive in that it channeled the exhaust gas to the front of the muffler, then it had to find its way out of the ports in different directions.
Now the big open space will offer lower resistance as the pressure will drop faster at the mouth of the exhaust port as the gasses exit the muffler

I have increased the size of the front outlet and put better breathing spark screens over both exits but that was before I removed the baffle.

And I have to say, getting it out was a frustrating PITA.

Does anyone in Australia use pine for firewood?
We rarely leave even logs, if the client wants the wood then we'll leave it otherwise everything green from sugar gum to red gum gets chipped. Dead dry wood is a different story, though its got to be good stuff to be worth the time. We're an Arb company so time is money

I also used to burn pine in scotland, hated it, messy sticky quick burning rubbish, much prefer Birch and Ash

Had the 066 out to take care of about 5 or 6 tonnes of Ironbark today.
It now starts to 4 stroke at 13100 RPM where previously it was 12800

Ran it with both my 25" bar running Stihl 404 RC and also my 30" bar running 3/8 Oregon Full comp, full chisel chain. For those in the US, Ironbark is NASTY. Its very hard, very dense and very heavy and it really tested the saw with the 30" bar completely buried and me swinging on the handle.
It feel stronger in the cut, not more powerful, but like it was finding it easier to spin. It was as strong as an ox like it always is and the extra RPM's were nice.

Here is about 2/3 of the Ironbark I cut.

First load...... you can see the gnarly bark on the tree well in this one.
