The 572XP Update Thread

Must have hired some gorillas to run your saws! Mine has 180+ comp and no decomp and I can't say I ever felt like it wanted to break plastic. Even did one at 200psi and it felt capable.
Now my 390 at 210psi will break one on the first or second pull without a decomp. I always felt the bigger bore saws pulled over harder than smaller bore saws (given same comp ratio).
Just seems odd.

Eh, I snapped one on a stock 562 without too much effort and I'm about as far from a gorilla as you can get. I was restarting it on a job when it felt like the recoil snagged a bit. Figuring the rope was pinching I yanked it a bit harder and one of the ears bent. I still ran it with one ear for the week it took for a replacement pulley and it held up fine to normal use. Should I have stopped and disassembled it when it snagged? Probably. Would forcing it like I did hurt the recoil on any other saw I own? No.

Just changed another and am trying one from @Duke Thieroff to see how it fares, as it has a different plastic compound by the looks of it.
Also happened to notice that this pulley is the same as the 570/575, so it stems from at least that far back.
To my line of thinking the 572xp could have more compression or something that it had issues.
Not an expensive fix and to be fair I don't believe that the decompression valve is being employed as it should be, nor the pawls engaged before yanking on the handle. Which surely makes some difference.

I'm rather certain your second to last sentence is 100% correct there Mr. (Hender)Shot.

People get yanky before the pins get grabby. If at TDC or close it'll bust the posts.

I'm unsure if ours are better, but they are cheaper.

So just out of curiosity and I'm not trying to start a brand war but do other saws have issues with the recoil? I mean obviously just grabbing and yanking isn't great for any saw, but are there other brands/models prone to failing?

Of the saws my tree guy has, they all do except for the 592xp so far. The MS 201TC's elastostart handle is the first thing to go, then the pull chord, constantly changing them, otherwise work well until pawls and pulley are worn enough to jam it up upon attempting to start. The 372xpxt/390xp's are good for the occasional starter chord, the pulleys are sneaky and wait until they are plum worn out and come in contact with the pawls while running, then blow up to take out the air foil, coil wiring and pawls, maybe even the starter housing depending on the level of shrapnel.
So, I guess they get you sooner or later, all you can hope for is a decent service life before repairs become necessary. Also, if something seems off when starting or running your saw, it's usually cheaper to stop and investigate to see if something is amiss, although it's much easier to diagnose if you run it until it develops instead...
