You can either cut the band or install the spacer (which I have some that I wired off the base of bad jugs) if you'd want to run the 028 super piston. I gave ben two of them yesterday.

Jake this one you are getting will have a windowed 46mm piston. The windowed Pistons run just fine on these. You'll like this saw. As I told you yesterday it will be an upgrade from your echo. I've tried about every mod there is on this saw. David has a lot of experience on these. He's who I went to when I became obsessed with them about a year ago. Timing advance and muffler mod and widening of exhaust/intake is the best bang for your buck from my experience. I've had 10 or more in the last year. Solid saws. Do the intake upgrade that david spoke of earlier.

Whats the intake upgrade?

David did a thread sometime back but it's essentially using m5 nuts and longer carb bolts. Thus eliminating the intake manifold plastic threads stripping out that killed so many of these saws.

Have you ever tried the 44 mm 028 in a 50?
I haven't. I've only gotten into the 51/55.
I actually prefer the 51 because of the smaller combustion chamber. I've had several stock 51's pull 180-185 with a base gasket. I've got a closed port 55 for sale on the other site with a base gasket and .040 squish that's 175. But i cut the band.

If you ever decide you wanna build any more, let me know I've got 8-10 good cases, tanks. Several mufflers, carbs, some cylinders. You would need very little.

Jake, the anti-vibes on these are not like their 2xx series cousins, and require replacement from time to time. That and the aforementioned intake is about the only thing troublesome on these. They are a fairly mechanic friendly saw to work on. Mods can be done just as much or little as the Pro saws do. As far as parts go, was able to do a one stop shop at HL Supply for everything needed to rebuild one of these saws. As said before the air dam/plastic intake can be repaired by one of numerous ways if you have trouble with it. HL Supply has good rubber intake and impulse parts for this and I recommend changing them. Other than that, have fun with your build and let us know how your doing with it. SS
