First saw I ever ported was a 51, I only widened and reshaped, no timing change. Did a gasket delete and timing advance. Muffler modded, but went entirely too big, this was before I really knew much. Funny thing is I still don't know much, but more than I did then. Off the roll .325 Stihl chisel chain.

Well I know what I'll be doing when it warms up a little thanks

I pulled the open port 45mm top end in the video to do a 46mm top end using a 028 super piston. It had tons of compression but I never did get it "right". Actually that top end is still on it, I lost interest and put it on a shelf where it still sits. I should pull it apart and put the 45mm top end back on it.

Was it just to much comp vs timing?

Yes, it was an experiment using aftermarket parts. Somebody had given me a 46mm closed port hyway jug. Squish was horrible, over .060 ! So I had the idea to take up the extra squish with a cheap super piston and bump compression. Which worked, but the port timing wasn't the greatest. It had 230 psi at assembly, I never checked it again after break in.

Should work just fine, be careful with that it looks like galvanized. Grind the coating away before welding or brazing.

And Ive got a degree wheel and I think if I watch the TreeMonkey how to video 10 more time I could really fk something up lol.

It's not that bad, takes a few times but it will all make sense. These saws really benefit from widening. If you tear one apart you will see what I mean. Intake port is extremely narrow and the exhaust isn't far behind. I widened both to the 60-65% of bore range.

Did you try it with a base gasket?Sometimes that's all you need to straighten them out.

Welding or brazing that little bit of galvanized won't bother you TOO bad. Best thing is some sort of fume extraction since conduit is electro galvanized and has it on the inside. I used it on my muffler mod on a 440. I used to weld the carport frames for a company. Stuff is nasty to work with. Welding a lot of it requires a fresh air respirator setup.

Yes, I had a thin gasket, squish was at .025 or so. I think the issue was in the aftermarket jug timing/transfers. It just never felt right, felt like it was held back. I had fun with it and learned a lot along the way. Maybe I will try an OEM 46mm jug one of these days.

Jake this one you are getting will have a windowed 46mm piston. The windowed Pistons run just fine on these. You'll like this saw. As I told you yesterday it will be an upgrade from your echo. I've tried about every mod there is on this saw. David has a lot of experience on these. He's who I went to when I became obsessed with them about a year ago. Timing advance and muffler mod and widening of exhaust/intake is the best bang for your buck from my experience. I've had 10 or more in the last year. Solid saws. Do the intake upgrade that david spoke of earlier.
