Wouldnt buy either of those you mentioned. I'd take myself over to the Classifieds and buy one of those stihl 044s. Either the 10 mm one or the 12 listed for five bills. You will have one of the greatest saws ever made. That is damn near bulletproof and can handle almost any thing that you will get into while cutting. I would not start a big job with the homeowner saw.
i agree why buy a new saw for that price when youd have a better saw for the same money and can do more with it and also have a better resale value than a homeowner saw

A 10 mm 044 is the only Saw I owned when I found the forums. I had bars from 16 inches to 32 that I ran on that saw and it handled them all well enough as a Stock saw. You get on these forums and you get caught up in the hype of ported saws are the only saws that can cut wood. For 95% of us it's not necessary for what we do. But as guys we like bigger and better faster, etc.

I would never buy a 15 year old saw as my only and rely on it on a somewhat daily basis.

Thats just my opinion/experience.
Different strokes for different folks
I really like older saws. I enjoy rebuilding and making new again what someone else thought was junk. Now do have have new saws yes but I also have saws that are 30 years old that I use regularly and expect them to work just like a new one.

That doesnt apply to most people...and considering this dude is tossing up a 455 and a 311 id say hes not into being an online saw polisher and lookin for a saw to get the job done.

I doubt you have a 30 year old saw you take to work everyday.

My 044 never let me down. The Used 044/440 gonna cost the same as a new ms311. Parts are easier to get and u can work on the saw yourself easily.
