I know, right? When I was selling some ported saws I liked to hear them say "did you really cut with this?" Yes, I sez. "No you didn't, I can tell, there's not a mark on it"

It just doesn't seem right leaving them dusty and oily.

I got a polished 590 on a shelf, I should probably go dust it off.

That explains it, this was my first.

I just pulled down a 461 from 2015 and the intake port had a ridge of chrome (about .030-.040 tall) running all the way across the bottom edge. The exhaust port had the same thing but on the roof of the port.

I put mine back in the box after a clean and polish.
No dust later .....

Very.

Consistently ugly.

The port is always beveled nicely....just crappy looking compared to a 034, 044, 046, etc.

Could it then have been Stihl's fault and not Gilardoni? Though they should have cleaned it up, but at least Stihl 's fault for approving the result.

Ohh, I forgot to post, in my travels earlier, my local dealer has a 461 on the shelf.
I'll have to pop in my old local dealer's place and check there too.
At my new dealer, it was the only large saw he has. Say's he can't keep the 361 stocked either. Or was that a 362?

I'm gonna try to get the 461 if its still available, after I pay off my Rattler 7910. Almost there ......

My only issue with my new ms461 is that, as far as I can tell, it came from the factory tuned lean and hot. Another Friday night special? Emissions standards workaround for the 1128 chassis? I dunno. Anyway, I cut off the tab on the high speed limiter cap; now it's tuned to clean up in the cut. Runs cooler and sounds right.

Mine seems to run great in a cut from the dealer. Then again, I don't work her hard. Been babying it since I got it in 2017. I'll do a drop with it, and maybe a couple of bucking cuts if need be. She don't get much use though. I do let all my saws warm up before I start cuttin. When I get a second 461, I will warm one of em up. Or send her out to be done by someone.

Was about to say the same thing, it looks more like a Chinese after market cylinder then an OEM. On the other hand the 462 and 572 cylinders both look amazing.

Are the earlier 461s better than the later ones and, if so, when did they start making them?
My last "big" saw before the 461 was a 440 that I bought new in '02.
