The one logging company I worked for had an old 076 with a 60" (.404" pitch) bar. Me and my partner at the time used it to fell some big Doug Firs and it seemed to do fine.

We were using the manual oiler button a lot though. I think it would be more comfortable with a 50".

My stihl dealer can get a 59" sprocket tip or a 47" hard nose. Believe it or not the 47" is way higher. I always forget to consider what the oil pump can put out. 50" would be fine. Is cannon the only other company besides stihl themselves that make a 50" bar in 3002 mount?

Mine must be weak, it didn’t like a 42” bar in some knotty spruce, 404, 7 pin

Stihl should be able to get you a 47 rollomatic ES bar. I have a few here.

When i called my stihl dealer they could get a 47" but it was a hard nose it was over 400$ i remember it being higher than the 59" for sure. I keep searchin for something in the 4' range, i got time. I am glad that parts are still available for the 076, i guess its because of the TS760 the aftermarket makes alot of stuff, seems to have way more for it than my 084, parts for it are scarce

There is a 47” on eBay currently for 320 with free shipping. There is a 41” for 165.

Yes a decent 076 will Pull a 60" bar buried. They are no speed demon compared to other saws in their size range, but will get the job done. I would seriously take a Cannon 60" over the Stihl 59". I have had both and the Stihl is quite whippy where the Cannon remains stiff.

Couldn’t agree more. I ended up switching out my Stihl 59” as it was like a wet noodle.

I almost lost a chain with the way that bar bent in the big wood. Pretty scary to have approximately 11 & 1/2 foot of chain start to come off at max rpm. The 59" Stihl bars are pretty and have nice hard rails, but do not compare with a Cannon, old General, or old Oregon. I have had all in that 60" length so have been lucky enough to compare. I would suspect the 60" GB to be pretty whippy as well. I had a 72" GB and elected not to use it for that reason.

I actually have a 60" general bar , its fairly wide in the center to its pretty rigid. Unfortunately general bars are kinda hard to come by seems like. I use it on the mill with a 070 and 084.

That 60 inch General is probably a fat belly bar. Is it a roller nose?
General was a very good bar maker in there day.

Its not a roller nose, its just a sprocket nose, but still a nice bar. I got it used but you can tell it was used very little, still had the lettering in the middle.

Id call the general bar a fat belly of sorts, compared to the 56" forester on my 288xp which has pretty straight rails.
( Dont beat up on me too much on the chicom 070, i had a weak moment and forgot where my brain was.)
