Cool. I'm in. I can run my 440 too.

Last week there was a saw on craigslist MS440, doesn't oil from MA. I emailed him 2 or 3 times and he never responded. On after it sold, he replied. Weird coincidence.

I'll have my brother ask the owner if he or his relative possibly acquired it from Craigslist. Maybe the real story is he got a "you suck" craigslist find in an 044 that doesn't oil that came cheap!

It was cheap for sure. Weird if it was the same saw.

Found the video. Here it is:

Thing looks bad azz. Is that an oregon 24" bar? I like the 24" on 372 for all around use, balance, avoiding the ground w/o bending too much when bucking etc. etc. I'm at the point where I know where the bar is by "feel" usually when trying to avoid ground contact while dogging through something. When I throw the 28" on the 372 I'm in all crazy careful mode again...

What gauge bar? IIRC Stihl is usually 0.063 whereas I'm an 0.058 guy all Oregon powermatch bars.

Most Stihl bars in the East are .050, but in the West .063 is popular, as it is (ironically) on some of the smaller Stihl saws (like my 024 Super).

All my 20" bars are .050 but I went with .063 on the 24" & 28" bars. My 36" light bar is .050, got a deal on it, works fine.

I bought the Oregon Powermatch 24 in 3/8", .050, with full chisel chain.
If I could have secured the log better, the saw would have cut even faster. It was my first time doing a video. Next time will be better.

I think I am going to buy a Forester Platinum bar next.

For 24" I am running the Stihl E bars. They cost less and are lighter than the ES bars. The ES light bars are the lightest & most expensive. I did a thread on it here.

Is the E bar the one with the non-replaceable sprocket tip?
Laminated metal.

I've run 20" .050 E bars for a long time w/o any problems, in fact that is what milled the Ash logs for my cabin (8-12'; 2-17'; 4-20' and 3-27'), plus we did some extras and used the bars for everyday cutting. I still run 3 of them (on the 362, 044 and 440).

More recently, I've been running 2 24" .063 E bars on my ported 460s w/o any problems so far, and I plan to do some milling with them. I did ruin a 24" .050 bar tip by not running real bar oil. Won't make that mistake again.

Thanks for the info Mike. From my experience, the ES bars from Stihl are very expensive. I currently have an E bar (.325 .063 18") on my 029. Runs nice. But I prefer to have the solid ES type, Power Match Plus type bars on my saws.

Depends on the saw, I would not want a heavier ES bar on a limbing saw, IMO just a lot of extra weight in the wrong place. By the time you pay for an ES and a replacement tip, you could have had 2 E bars and saved a lot of weight.

But the Es looks meaner:D
Think I'm going with the sugihara 3/8 0.50 in a 20" for my ms 362

I finally got the saws -- there is the 044 and the other is an 028 wood boss.
I'm hoping to mess with 044 today -- if not it will likely only be on the weekends! Not in a rush on that one.

I forgot to ask my brother when he dropped them off.
I'll find out once I talk to by bro. Now I'm curious too.
