Stihl 044/ms440

I actually posted this over on AS however i was invited to this site today so I thought I'd share it with you guys. Oh and Hi!

I've been offered an 044/440 hybrid, built out of almost entirely brand new and all genuine Stihl parts. Here's the list:

-Brand new 440 crank case, bearings, crankshaft and seals
-Brand new 12mm non decomp 044 Stihl piston and cylinder
-Brand new starter housing
-Brand new 044 clutch cover
-Brand new 440 fuel tank, HD filter setup, hoses, intake boot and wrap handle
-Brand new 440 carb
-Brand new 440 plastics with 044 name plate
-Brand new clutch and rim sprocket
-Brand new 25" Stihl bar and chain never touched wood
-Brand new bolts all round


The used parts are:

-flywheel
-coil
-wiring harness
-exhaust

I'm glad I found this forum, seems far more geared towards the type of conversations I like. Namely anything that has either "chain" or "saw" in a sentence

Yep. There's a real NIB 440 for sale on another forum for $1250 US.

Just for those who haven't seen the price, this saw has never touched wood and is standing at around $550 dollars give or take depending on the exchange rate

Waiting for the seller to get back to me with his payment details, as soon as I get it in hand I'll send more photos plus some of all the original Stihl boxes which he still has too!

Bugger, just spoken to the seller and he's sold it to someone else! I had funds ready and waiting and had agreed to buy it, not happy

If oem parts yes ,they are making chinese cases and plastics now ,so if aftermarket ,may be worth the asking price ,if all oem 850 would be a good price , 550 is a steal .

All oem with original boxes, I've told him If anything goes wrong with his deal to get in touch, the guy he sold it to is giving him £380 cash and an fs410 strimmer, I just don't get why he wouldn't take my cash offer

He started doing research to figure out what the saw was worth and probably backed out. It happens all the time.

I was kinda thinking the same thing, most deals that are to good to be true, usually are.
Count your lucky stars jbc, you probably avoided a catastrophe! Just because the guy had empty boxes of new parts, doesn't mean that's what inside!

I agreed to pay the asking price, in cash, the next day for an 046 D cylinder saw. The guy agreed. When I called the next day for directions, he informed me he had sold it to a friend. I was very disappointed, so I know what you are going through, but keep your eyes open and other opportunities will come. However, know your stuff, and act fast when you have to. Good deals don't last long.
