Got two project saws I started a while back. A 440 12mm poly flywheel and 460. The case has a chip out of it on the lower right corner of the flywheel side of the 440. I’m also looking for any other good used parts for them. Clutch covers, flywheel covers, carb parts, new rubber hoses/boots. My cranks are good and I believe I can clean up both of the cylinders. They have seen a rough life but I got them for free and am hoping to get both cases powder coated and build two nice saws. The rear handles are in pretty bad shape so NOS or good used ones would be great. Since I use these saws for a living I might aswell restore them and use them to make money. I’ll eventually get them ported. Who knows, I may get them going and try porting them myself in the future.

Oh, so I have almost everything already to build these saws but most of it is AM in an attempt just to see if I can salvage them. So any oem would be better than AM. Especially some good wheel bearings and seals

Seals come with the oem gasket sets which run about 30-35 dollars. Get the PTO side bearings from your dealer as well. Grab some good quality 6202 or 6203 bearings from your local bearing supplier or ebay.

Is the 6202/6203 bearings for the flywheel size?

Yes, 6202.
If you look in the MS460 thread I did a couple weeks ago or the 044 one I'm doing now, I used some Koyo bearings I sourced off Amazon

A poly flywheel 440? Did one exist?

I probably have a case half, but one needs to be careful Stihl wasn’t the best with case half’s matching. I’ve seen them be off quite a bit.

Got a picture of the broken case half? Depending on where is is, it could be an easy repair.

And yes, both the 440 and 460 use a 6202 for the flywheel bearing. It needs to be C3 rated.

I wasn’t near the saws when I posted this. Maybe I’m mixing up the two cases. Maybe it was the 460 that had the poly flywheel. I know it was the 440 case that was cracked. I’m out to lunch now then I’ll be back to the yard and I’ll take pictures to confirm and show the damage.

Here’s the damage on the 440. I’m probably mistaken on the flywheels. I had both of them off and in the parts washer. One normal and one poly. I thought the poly was for the 440 but I’m guessing it’s for the 460. I’ll check part numbers to confirm before final put together. 0BF3A299-FBF9-47BC-A9CA-0BA3FEAEE9D2.jpeg7D15F523-E389-48FA-AD21-E609C0B419BB.jpeg

I have quite a few crankcases that I haven’t listed on my eBay store yet but will be over the next week.
