Ok. Is it a new design or what's up with it ?
He's done it since they first started making that cylinder. No one has yet told me it is better performance. It's not quite the same as true closed port. The transfers have no curve like the closed port cylinders. We'd need someone to test both and give us some results.

I just ordered a 390 cylinder for my 290 today. If I would have known that the Hywaw and Stens were closed port I would have tried one of them.

I was concerned about the wide transfer ports. So it appears these jugs are being run without any problems with the wide transfer ports. Crikey, I may have to disassemble my running saw and install one of these jugs with the domed piston - just because it is available.

I'd like to see this jug under the knife of a tuner.

Just from the pictures, the transfers do look like they can be improved. I suspect that there is a reduction in transfer tunnel area in the region of the 'bridge' across the tunnel. A TS-400 piston, plus some re-casting inside the tunnel, to enlarge it, at that opening and putting in some curve could open up the flow. - It really looks like it has some potential.

Iam right there with ya Terry I like these over looled saws plus the idea of turnin something mundane in to a performer excites me.

This is how I do mine. If you drill into the center they get really loud... these are the pictures I send to people before performing this surgery to let them know what they are getting. I just use a drill, file, and a cut off wheel to do this mod. They really do run strong. I usually fit them with a 20" bar with 3/8" full comp. Without the muffler mod the saw is a real dog. I was very pleased with the outcome of this mod. It is hard to believe the difference that mid makes.

I did this muffler mod to the 029 I converted to a 039 yesterday. I have a nasty flu bug and did light duty yesterday. Today I feel worse.

It seems to be more responsive since the muffler mod. I look forward to cutting some wood with it.

I'll get a pic when I get home . I used a few pieces out of my mityvac 8500 for it . And a piece of a tube out of a bike tire for the rest .. redneck ingenuity I guess . Lol

It will be copied as soon as we get the sample.

I have all the stuff sitting in my trunk. Shaun and I need a window of time to work through them and get the machine work and fitting done. As soon as that window opens, I'll make the 2hr drive over to his shop and we'll get-R-done! I'm hoping he'll be around this weekend or next. I'll ship the pistons back as soon as we have the samples ready. Unless you want the samples field tested before shipping? @Gentleman

I only have one 290/390 chassis in the shop right now believe it or not... LOL!
