Hello I was cutting wood with my 028 super tonight and the one muffler bolt turned loose . It's stripped out . What's the best option to fix that ? Going to a 6 mm screw or are there better ways ? Thanks

I pack some jb weld in there and on the screw and get it as tight as I can. Let it set up overnight

Is this the upper (cylinder) or lower (case)bolt?

I think there is enough meat in the cylinder to go up to 6mm. Anything else is a bit of a rig. If you know what I mean...?

Yep I know what you mean . I put a new piston in it a couple months ago . First chainsaw I ever really messed with a lot . It's my favorite from my collection:)

I went up to 6 on a stripped brake pivot/recoil bolt. I didn't even drill. just slowly and patiently went from stripped 5 up to new 6mm threads. Worked great. If it's a keeper, I would re tap and use some lock tite on the new bolt. I like the 028...

Ok. Would it work to use a piece of all thread ? put a lock washer and nuts on both ends

Once this happened to me. The threaded hole in the cylinder would accept a slightly longer m5 bolt. The threads further in were not stripped. So, I used a slightly longer bolt and it worked well enough to hold it. Consider also some temporary thread lock adhesive while doing this. However, the engine heat may make that useless.

What Edwin said!! The holes in the cylinder are probably drilled out far enough to accept a longer bolt. If that doesnt work I'd try the timesert.

The screws come out normally, in my experience. It's not a great fix. But if you're nervous about retapping a new thread, it works fine
