It's not crucial in a 50cc saw. How much difference could an angle make across that short percentage of the piston diameter? It was just to raise the compression 15 points.

Wow, I have only been on this site for 10 minutes and I already have someone to add to my ignore file.

I believe that to be true in larger bores
Are the bands in larger bores about the same size (percentage of the total) as the ones in smaller bores?

Edit: maybe i should have said motorcyle or sled cylinders compared to saws.

Did you sign up just to say that?

Er, no... I was not aware that BA was here when I signed up. I was wondering where he was spending his time though. He (or whomever of his multiple personae) seems to like to follow Randy around.

The band's are smaller in relation to bore size for bike and sled engines.

As time went by bike heads seem to gravitate toward wider bands at more of an angle with flat top pistons.
This is a cr500 head, which uses a domed piston.$_1.jpg

I think the community would hope you don't rush to judgement on anyone and get to know the person a little.
In this case I have observed a much different person than on AS with an incredible amount of knowledge.

Well, I have no interest in dragging this thread off-topic any further, but BA is enemy #1 in my book, for many reasons. Wherever you go, there you are.

if I remember right, there are 3 bores, 2 flat, 1 pop up
That's what I've seen..
The Super I built for the build off in KY had a slight taper on the piston and squish band to match.
I did not cut them.
.019 squish, 112 ex and 195 pounds comp..
All OEM to my knowledge.
It's a runner...

about 50% of the bore, bikes, sleds, and saws
Lately, I've been seeing a lot of squish bands cut at way over the old rule of thumb 50% of cross sectional area of bore on saws..
Not sure it's good or bad, just an observation..
